What's going on Saturday?
You can browse our full NYC show calendar for all of tonight’s shows, but here are some highlights…
Dave Chappelle, Childish Gambino @ Radio City Music Hall
Dave Chappelle has had seriously impressive guests at every show in his 16-night Radio City residency (both announced and unannounced), and tonight is no different. Childish Gambino, who previously said his headlining set at Governors Ball would be his only show of 2017, plays this one.
Fool’s Gold Day Off @ Coney Art Walls
The annual Fool’s Gold Day Off happens at Coney Art Walls this year and the lineup is great as ever. Label heads A-Trak and Nick Catchdubs are both playing, plus Jay Electronica, Flosstradamus, PnB Rock, Remy Banks, LEAF, Nyck @ Knight, and more.
Mary J. Blige, Lalah Hathaway @ Theater at Madison Square Garden
R&B/soul great Mary J Blige recently released her 13th album, Strength of a Woman, which features Kanye West, Quavo of Migos, Missy Elliott, DJ Khaled, Kaytranada, and more. This is her second of two NYC shows this week.
EZTV, Ornament, Lina Tullgren, Martin Frawley (of TWERPS) @ ALPHAVILLE
Hailing from Maine, Lina Tullgren brings a dark, moody air to her songs and arrangements that gives them an unsettling edge that also draws you in. This is her second of two NYC shows this weekend with Captured Tracks labelmates EZTV and also features Twerps frontman Martin Frawley.
Breanna Barbara, Cassandra Jenkins, RIPS, Space Captain, Maybird @ Bryant Park
A whole bunch of up-and-comers play today at the free “Emerging Music Festival” which starts at 4 PM.
Rooftop Films 2017 closing night w/ Chastity Belt and Cataldo @ Industry City
The 2017 season of Rooftop Films comes to a close with a program of shorts (Cataldo play beforehand) and then an afterparty featuring a live set from Seattle’s Chastity Belt who have flown in just for the occasion.

They’re calling this garage-punk-oriented show a “Band Bomb” and goes from 4 – 9 PM on OWL’s roof, and Foster Care, Willful Boys, 1-800-Band are all recommended by us.
Lionel Richie @ Madison Square Garden
Hello, is it Lionel you’re looking for? Here he is, playing “all the hits” (solo, Commodores and other) tonight at MSG.
Dick Dale @ Brooklyn Bowl
The King of Surf Guitar is till at it, despite some health troubles, and nobody plays “Misirlou” as good as he does.
Dumpstaphunk, Terrie Odabi, Eric Gales, Sugar Ray and The Bluetones, Campbell Brothers @ Pier 97 (Blues & BBQ fest)
Blues and BBQ go together like peanut butter and jelly and you’ll be able to get both (but maybe not a PBJ) at this fest. The blues is free, but the BBQ will cost ya. 2 PM.
Gun Outfit, Amps for Christ, Ornament @ Union Pool (Summer Thunder)
Union Pool’s free “Summer Thunder” series continues with LA-via-Olympia band Gun Outfit who are punk in spirit but somewhere between slowcore and psychedelic folk in sound, as well as metal/noise vet Amps for Christ.
Summer Strummerfest 2017 @ Stone Pony Summerstage
Jesse Malin is presenting this tribute to late, great Clash frontman Joe Strummer who would’ve been 65 next week. The all-star tribute includes Craig Finn (Hold Steady), Brian Fallon (The Gaslight Anthem), Ted Leo, Patrick Stickles (Titus Andronicus), Richard Barone (The Bongos), Daniel Rey (The Dictators), and more.
Jim Jones @ Marcus Garvey Park
The free SummerStage shows in Marcus Garvey Park continue tonight, this time with Dipset’s Jim Jones.
Vagabon @ The Mailroom
Vagabon released one of the year’s better DIY/indie debuts with Infinite Worlds, and tonight she plays a free show at NYC’s new venue The Mailroom at 100 Wall Street.
Billboard Hot 100 Music Festival @ Jones Beach
Though the Billboard Hot 100 Music Festival may not seem like the way you want to spend your Saturday, there’s actually a handful of cool acts playing today, including Big Sean, Rick Ross, Ty Dolla $ign, Gucci Mane, Tinashe, Ugly God, and Kodie Shane.
Jenny Lewis @ The Surf Lodge
If you’re thinking of heading to the Hamptons this weekend, there’s a particularly great free show at The Surf Lodge: Jenny Lewis.
