Shaky Knees 2017 - Friday
Wolf Parade at Shaky Knees 2017 (more via aLIVE Coverage)

You can browse our full NYC show calendar for all of tonight’s shows, but here are some highlights…

Wolf Parade, Charly Bliss @ Brooklyn Steel
Wolf Parade finally returned this year with Cry Cry Cry, their first album in seven years, and it’s right up there with their classic material, both in style and quality. Tonight’s their first NYC show since its release.

Sheer Mag, Hank Wood and the Hammerheads, Haram @ Warsaw
Thin Lizzy and Cheap Trick-inspired punks Sheer Mag released their debut album, Need to Feel Your Love, this year. Tonight they’re back in NYC with local support from organ-fueled garage punks Hank Wood and the Hammerheads and Arabic-language hardcore band Haram.

Bloodshot Brooklyn BBQ: Jon Langford’s Four Lost Souls @ Union Pool
Chicago’s Bloodshot Records are throwing an afternoon BBQ (their first in NYC in nearly a decade), headlined by Mekons frontman Jon Langford who just released new album Four Lost Souls. Also on the bill: Cory Branan, Luke Winslow-King, Dexter Romweber (Flat Duo Jets), and Al Scorch. The Good Fork is handling the food, and bands are from 2 – 7 PM. $10.

The Front Bottoms, Basement, Bad Bad Hats @ Starland Ballroom
The Front Bottoms recently released their new album Going Grey, which introduces auto-tune and shiny synths to their acoustic pop punk sound. Direct support tonight comes from their UK-based Fueled by Ramen labelmates Basement.

Toadies, The Black Clouds @ Stone Pony
Toadies were one of the more underrated bands of the ’90s alt-rock era, and their new material isn’t half bad. Having recently played NYC, they’re in Asbury Park tonight.

Kali Uchis, Phony PPL @ Music Hall of Williamsburg
Having collaborated with Tyler the Creator, Kaytranada, Gorillaz, and more, Kali Uchis continues to rise in the world. She’ll tour opening for Lana Del Rey next year, but first she plays headlining shows in NYC this week with quality support from hip hop group Phony PPL. This is night 2 and it’s sold out.

Actress, Eartheater, Patricia @ Brooklyn Bazaar
Electronic musician Actress and avant-pop artist Eartheater both opened for Nicolas Jaar this week, and tonight they team up for a smaller show together.

Springsteen on Broadway
It’s the hottest ticket on Broadway: Bruce Springsteen playing solo at the intimate Walter Kerr Theatre, performing some of his biggest hits and telling stories about them. His show runs through February.

Ben Folds, Tall Heights @ Kings Theatre
Got a song you want Ben to play? This tour he’s encouraging you to write that down on a sheet of paper at the show, fold it into a paper airplane, and sail it to the stage (unless that request is “Freebird”).

Scharpling & Wurster @ Murmrr Theatre (two shows)
One of Sharpling & Wurster’s most famous bits on The Best Show had Jon Wurster as Ronald Thomas Clontle, author of Rock, Rot & Rule, “the ultimate argument settler.” They’re celebrating the 20th anniversary of that bit at two shows tonight, with some promised “special guests.”

‘Nathan for You’ @ The Bell House
What to expect at these Nathan For You Events? “Host Nathan Fielder appears live and in person to give you a sneak peek of the upcoming season of Nathan for You. The screening will be followed by a Q&A discussion that will include several off-the-cuff jokes by Fielder, who’s a mediocre improviser.” Two shows tonight, both sold out.

Psychedelic Furs, Bash and Pop @ The Paramount
While not the most obvious double bill, it will surely be a fun night with ’80s alt-rock mainstays the P-Furs, and Tommy Stinson’s post-Mats band Bash and Pop.

Losers Lounge Tribute to Bee Gees @ Joe’s Pub
For 20+ years Joe McGinty has been leading the Losers Lounge, paying tribute to different artists with his talented band and a host of surprise guest vocalists. Tonight: The Brothers Gibb. 7PM & 9:30PM shows.
