What’s going on Sunday?
You can browse our full NYC show calendar for all of tonight’s shows, but here are some highlights…
NYC Pride March
The annual Manhattan Pride March draws thousands of revelers, activists and allies each year, and starting with its 49th edition in 2018, it’s getting a new route. The March commences at noon at 16th St and 7th Avenue, heads south to Christopher St, then east along 8th St before heading north on 5th Ave and dispersing at 29th St. Billie Jean King, Lambda Legal, Tyler Ford, and Kenita Placide lead the charge as Grand Marshals.
Pride Island w/ Kylie Minogue, DJ Grind, DJ Ralphi Rosario, DJ Corey Craig @ Pier 97
Right after the March, the party kicks into high gear at Pride Island where pop royalty Kylie Minogue will hopefully play all the hits we can’t get out of our heads.
Florence and the Machine @ Secret Location
Florence + the Machine’s highly anticipated new album High As Hope comes out this week, and going by the early singles, it’s looking very promising. Ahead of its release, Florence is playing this secret NYC show, which is free with RSVP (which is now closed). As for the location, all we know is it’s in a “candle-lit garden.”
Jay Critch, Tony Seltzer @ Coffey Park
UPDATE: SummerStage cancelled its shows at Coffey Park, Brooklyn.
Brooklyn rapper Jay Critch has been on the rise (FADER called him “the new New York” in a feature earlier this year), and tonight he plays a free SummerStage show in his home borough.
Face to Face, Counterpunch, The Scandals @ House of Independents
West Coast punk vets Face to Face are releasing an acoustic album this year and playing some acoustic shows later in the year, but first they’re playing some regular full-band shows, including tonight’s in Asbury Park.
The Sword, The Atomic Bitchwax @ Irving Plaza
With both The Sword and The Atomic Bitchwax on the same bill, Irving Plaza should be full of riffs tonight.
Sheer Terror, Inhuman, Done Deal, None Above All @ Knitting Factory Brooklyn
NYHC vets Sheer Terror are still kicking and their live shows are still as crushing as you’d hope, as you can experience for yourself at Knitting Factory tonight. This is a matinee, and later at the same venue…
The Toasters, Beat Brigade, Joker’s Republic @ Knitting Factory Brooklyn
…NYC ska vets The Toasters will play a night show, making for a double header of veteran hometown bands at the Knit today.
The English Beat, Ghost Town Steppas @ The Bell House
More ska: Dave Wakeling’s current incarnation of The English Beat just released a new album but will probably stick mostly to the hits tonight.
