In honor of Pro Era’s late Capital Steez, many fellow Pro Era members (including Joey Bada$$) and their talented friends throw the annual Steez Day concert in NYC every year. This is the fourth year, and this time those talented friends include Flatbush Zombies, The Underachievers, Mick Jenkins, Jay Critch, and more.
Tara Jane O’Neil, Marisa Anderson @ Union Pool
Noisy, avant-folk vet Tara Jane O’Neil headlines this show, and there’s quality support from guitarist Marisa Anderson, who recently released her Thrill Jockey debut.
EPMD, DJ Sylk @ Springfield Park
There’s tons of good free hip hop shows as part of the 2018 SummerStage season, including this one, which has highly influential NYC vets EPMD playing in Queens.
Quelle Chris and Awesome In Outer Space, Liv.e, Malik Abdul-Rahmaan @ C’mon Everybody
Rapper Quelle Chris released a great new album with Jean Grae this year, but tonight he’s doing something different: playing as his synthwave alter-ego Awesome In Outer Space.
Kimya Dawson @ The Beverly (Kingston)
After taking some time off from music, anti-folk vet Kimya Dawson returned this year with the great new song “Cyclone” and she’s playing shows again too. She’s in Kingston, NY tonight and she hits Brooklyn twice later this week.
Daft Brunch w/ Juan Maclean, Nancy Whang, Justin Strauss & more @ Brooklyn Mirage
Dance off those pancakes and eggs benedict with DJ sets from Nancy Whang, Juan Maclean and NYC club vet Justin Strauss. Daft Brunch also features a “Fashion Swap & Pop Up Boutique Fashion.”
Oh, Such A Good Show, Oh! @ Union Hall
Story Pirates alum Josh Nasser and comedian Ethan Beach host this semi-regular show at Union Hall. It’s now in its tenth installment, and it will feature live and filmed comedy from some of our faves – the inimitable, creepy-calm Joe Pera (Adult Swim’s Joe Pera Talks With You), Sasheer Zamata (Saturday Night Live), Ayo Edebiri (The Rundown with Robin Thede), Ike Ufomadu (Joe’s Pub), and Jennifer Vanilla (performance art alter-ego of Ava Luna’s Becca Kauffman).
