You can browse our full NYC show calendar for all of tonight’s shows, but here are some highlights…

World Cup Final party w/ Charli XCX, Men in Blazers @ The Altman Buidling
Watch France and Croatia battle it out for the World Cup at this extra special viewing party featuring wound-licking Brits Charli XCX and podcasters Men in Blazers plus free American beer.

En Orbita Festial w/ Os Mutantes, Martin Rev, Lee Ranaldo, A Place to Bury Strangers, Yonatan Gat, Breaking Forms, MIT Media Lab Space Exploration Initiative @ Le Poisson Rouge
En Orbita combines astronomy and astrophysics with psych-rock, a mix of performances and talks which sounds pretty interesting. Hopefully the talks happen before APTBS play because everyone will be a little more deaf afterwards.

Lauryn Hill, M.I.A., Busta Rhymes, Jo Mersa Marley @ Jones Beach>
Lauryn Hill is celebrating the 20th anniversary of her classic (and only) studio album The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill by playing it in full on tour, and that’s a very exciting thing. She’s also got awesome openers lined up (varying by date). Tonight those openers include the genre-defying M.I.A. and veteran rapper Busta Rhymes. She plays another NYC-area show at NJ’s PNC Bank Arts Center in August.

Tender Defender, Choked Up, Fat Heaven @ Coney Island Baby
Tender Defender includes three members of beloved Long Island punks Latterman and they basically pick up where Latterman left off. Tonight’s their first of two NYC shows this month.

Jungle Brothers, O.C., Kool DJ Red Alert, DJ Kool Flash @ Queensbridge Park
The 2018 free SummerStage shows include lots of free classic hip hop, like tonight’s Queensbridge Park show headlined by Native Tongues founders Jungle Brothers.

Johnny Thunders’ Birthday Bash w/ Walter Lure & the Waldos, Lenny Kaye & many more @ Bowery Electric
The late NYC punk legend Johnny Thunders (of Johnny Thunders & the Heartbreakers and New York Dolls) would have turned 66 today, and his birthday will be celebrated with this show which includes his former Heartbreakers bandmate Walter Lure (with his band The Waldos), Lenny Kaye of Patti Smith Group, and many others.

Greatest Day Ever @ New York Expo Center
Bronx rap/EDM fest Greatest Day Ever wraps up today and there’s some cool stuff like weirdo auto-tune rapper Young Thug, R&B star Tory Lanez, Young Thug/Future producer Metro Boomin, and more.

An Albatross, Fero Lux, Dead Empires, SeeYouSpaceCowboy, Arms, The Callous Daoboys, Mary Todd, Horse Torso, Detach the Islands @ Saint Vitus (Mathcore Indexfest)
The Mathcore Index podcast and Metal Injection’s two-day Mathcore Indexfest wraps up today with a lineup headlined by Philly noise maniacs An Albatross.

Noname @ The Surf Lodge
Summer means free shows at Montauk hotel/restaurant/vacation spot The Surf Lodge, and today there’s a really good one: Chicago rapper Noname (whose ace band is as impressive as she is at rapping).

Erasure, Reed & Caroline @ Beacon Theatre
Vince Clarke and Andy Bell have created some of the most memorable synthpop of the last 30+ years, and tonight wraps up their sold-out Beacon run.

Sam Evian, EZTV @ Elsewhere
Sam released his new album You Forever earlier this year on Saddle Creek and its got a real late ’60s vibe with more than a little Beatles in there. He plays tonight with underrated Brooklyn janglepop act EZTV.

Yes @ St. George Theater
Prog rock vets Yes are celebrating their 50th anniversary this year, and the current lineup of the group — Steve Howe, Alan White, Geoff Downes, Jon Davison, and Billy Sherwood — (none of whom are actually founding members) are touring to commemorate.
