Kamasi Washington at Barclays Center
Kamasi Washington at Barclays Center in October (more by Ryan Muir)

What's going on Sunday?

You can browse our full NYC show calendar for all of tonight’s shows, but here are some highlights…

Kamasi Washington, Butcher Brown @ Brooklyn Steel
Crossover jazz great Kamasi Washington recently wrapped up a tour opening for and performing with Florence + the Machine (whose new album he appears on), and now he’s doing a headlining tour in support of his own two 2018 releases, Heaven and Earth and The Choice. Opening is Butcher Brown, a jazz group whose members have played with Jack White, Rapsody, Foxygen, Christian Scott, and others.

NY Comedy Festival
The 2018 NY Comedy Fest wraps up today with shows all over the city, including: Michelle Buteau’s podcast ‘Adulting,’ the Bodega Boys, Bassem Youssef, Gabriel “Fluffy” Iglesias, Ari Shaffir, and more.

Jeff Tweedy @ Murmrr Theatre
Jeff Tweedy releases his new memoir Let’s Go (So We Can Get Back) this week and celebrates with two nights at Murmrr. While ostensibly a book tour, these are “An Evening with Jeff Tweedy” shows where they stress he’ll have his guitar with him.

Arc Iris, Benjamin Lazar Davis, Julia Easterlin @ Rough Trade
Art pop group Arc Iris recently released their quirky new album Icon of Ego, and they’re celebrating it at this release show. Well-matched openers are lined up too.

Municipal Waste, Nuclear Assault, Toxic Holocaust, Haunt @ Warsaw
Tony Foresta and Landphil have been busy with Iron Reagan these past few years (and they still are), but in 2017, they reactivated Municipal Waste for their first album in five years, Slime and Punishment. The crossover thrash beasts are on the road again in support of it with killer openers Toxic Holocaust and Haunt, and while High on Fire were supposed to be on this run, they had to drop off and MW are replacing them with regional acts in as many cities as possible. NYC gets veteran hometown thrashers Nuclear Assault, whose shows are somewhat rare these days.

Nine of Swords, Super Unison, Tact, Hard Pass @ Our Wicked Lady
Oakland hardcore crushers (ex-Punch, Snowing) Super Unison are fresh off releasing their sophomore album Stella (produced by Don Devore and recorded by Steve Albini), and they’re supporting it on tour now. Tonight they’re in NYC, opening for locals Nine of Swords.

Toro y Moi, Dizzy Fae @ Elsewhere
Chaz Bundick will soon be back with a new Toro Y Moi album and we should get a preview tonight and this second of two sold-out shows. You’ll get the hits too.

“Nearly Midnight, Brooklyn: A Neko Case Drag Tribute Show” @ Metropolitan
Neko Case will be paid tribute to with drag show performances by Ash Blight, Patti Splif, Lindsay Blowhan, Seedy Edie, Fritzi Valkyrie, Strawberry, plus DJ St. Kenia. 11 PM, free.

Yelle, Barrie @ Elsewhere Zone One
French dancepop artist Yelle wraps up her Zone One run tonight.

Sleepyhead, Antietam, Royal Arctic Institute @ The Bowery Electric
Sleepyhead have centered around singer/guitarist Chris O’Rourke and drummer Rachael McNally since 1989 when they formed while students at NYU. With a sound that was both noisy and winsome, Sleepyhead released records on Slumberland, Homestead and other labels in the ’90s. Earlier this year they released Future Exhibit Goes Here which compiled their two albums into one double-LP set.

Richard Thompson Trio @ Town Hall
Folk legend Richard Thompson released new album 13 Rivers back in September and brings 50 years worth of great music to Town Hall tonight.
