Lost Weekend at Mohawk - Thursday
Japanese Breakfast at Lost Weekend at SXSW 2019 (more by Amanda Hatfield)

You can browse our full NYC show calendar for all of tonight’s shows, but here are some highlights…

Thou, Emma Ruth Rundle, Winkie (matinee show) @ Saint Vitus
Thou, Emma Ruth Rundle, MJ Guider, White Lighters (Brandon of Nothing) (late show) @ Brooklyn Bazaar
Thou released one of the best albums of 2018 with Magus (not to mention their three accompanying EPs, and their split with Ragana), and now they’re on tour with Emma Ruth Rundle. Thou and Emma are playing a collaborative “loud” set at their Saint Vitus matinee today, and separate “quiet” sets at Brooklyn Bazaar.

Janeane Garofalo Has Friends w/ Phoebe Robinson, Todd Barry, Shane Torres, Josh Gondelman, and more! @ Littlefield
Janeane Garofalo hosts a night of comedy with some of her favorite comedians, and tonight’s show features some pretty awesome guests, including 2 Dope Queens‘ Phoebe Robinson, deadpan great Todd Barry, and more.

Rivers of Nihil, Outer Heaven, Imperial Triumphant, Burial in the Sky @ Saint Vitus Bar
Pennsylvania tech-death crew Rivers of Nihil are doing a round of dates in support of 2018’s Where Owls Know My Name where they’re playing the album in its entirety. This is their second of two Saint Vitus shows this weekend, and this one’s extra special ’cause this one also features Outer Heaven playing their acclaimed 2018 album Realms of Eternal Decay in full.

Japanese Breakfast, Long Beard @ White Eagle Hall
Ever since Japanese Breakfast released her LP Soft Sounds From Another Planet nearly two years ago, she’s been on the road pretty regularly, and the latest stop of her current US tour is tonight at Jersey City, NJ’s White Eagle Hall, with support from NJ native Long Beard.

#ADULTING with Michelle Buteau and Jordan Carlos (two shows) @ Union Hall – Brooklyn
Michelle Buteau and Jordan Carlos tape two episodes of their podcast #ADULTING tonight: the 5:00 PM show features guests Becky Veduccio, Akilah Hughes, and Bethany Van Delft; while the 7:30 PM show features Jim Gaffigan, Giulia Rozzi, and Chris Distefano.

Tommy And The Commies, Les Lullies, Mala Vista @ Union Pool
Canadian garage punk trio Tommy & The Commies definitely wear their classic UK influences on their sleeves, but that doesn’t make their material any less enthralling. Their stop at Union Pool tonight features opening sets from labelmates Les Lullies and NYC punks Mala Vista.

Life in Vacuum, Kal Marks, Dead Tenants, Big Band @ Mercury Lounge
Toronto-based Life In Vacuum’s driving, rowdy punk sound was refined on last year’s All You Can Quit, and you can expect to hear some songs from that album tonight at Mercury Lounge.

Braxton Cook, Jade Novah, Kelsey Lu, Smino, Tank and the Bangas, Natasha Diggs, Brandee Younger @ The Shed
New crazy-looking Manhattan multi-arts center The Shed is open now, and this is night two of “Soundtrack of America,” “a five-night concert series celebrating the influence of African American music with a new generation of groundbreaking artists.” Tonight’s show notably features singer/cellist Kelsey Lu, whose debut LP Blood is out next month; and St. Louis rapper Smino, who released the great NOIR last year.

Ende Tymes @ Secret Project Robot
Ende Tymes, a three-day festival of noise and experimentation, wraps up with Drew McDowall, SIBLING, Octonomy, and more.

Brooklyn Folk Festival @ St. Ann & The Holy Trinity
The 2019 Brooklyn Folk Festival wraps up with a full day of performances (Ian Felice, John Harrod, more), workshops and other activities.
