What's going on Sunday?

You can browse our full NYC show calendar for all of tonight’s shows, but here are some highlights…

Wu-Tang Clan @ Ford Amphitheater at Coney Island Boardwalk
The Wu-Tang Clan have been celebrating the 25th anniversary of their classic debut Enter the Wu-Tang (36 Chambers) this year, and tonight the NYC group does another hometown show. The album hasn’t aged one bit, and Wu-Tang’s recent live shows are as energetic as you’d hope.

Sun Ra Arkestra @ Union Pool (POSTPONED)
Due to an iffy weather forecast, today’s Sun Ra Arkestra show has been postponed to September 1.

James Chance & The Contortions, Ice Balloons, Jonathan Toubin @ Our Wicked Lady
Keep the Sunday fun going at Our Wicked Lady’s rooftop with Jonathan Toubin’s Summer Soul Scream, tonight with the legendary James Chance & The Contortions and Kyp Malone’s Ice Balloons. Bands at 8 PM ($10 donation) and the dance party starts at 10 PM.

Chokehold, For The Love Of, Line of Scrimmage, Juggernaut @ Knitting Factory
Canadian vegan straightedge vets Chokehold recently returned with their first album in 24 years, and it picks up right where they left off. They’re now supporting it on tour with direct support from the back-in-action New Brunswick band For the Love Of, which is a killer pairing.

DaBaby, Stunna 4 Vegas, Blacc Zacc, Funkmaster Flex @ PlayStation Theater
DaBaby is one of the best new rappers in the world right now, and he’s in that point of his career where it feels like everything he touches turns to gold. He’s skilled in a traditional way, but he feels entirely modern, and his live shows tend to be nuts. Tonight’s by far his biggest headlining show in NYC yet.

Yes, Asia, John Hodge, Carl Palmer’s ELP Legacy @ PNC Bank Arts Center
Yes headline “The Royal Affair Tour,” which has been trekking across North America this summer, and also features other British prog rock vets: Asia, John Hodge of The Moody Blues, and Carl Palmer’s ELP Legacy. Excitingly, Carl Palmer will be playing with guest vocals by Arthur Brown (whose band The Crazy World of Arthur Brown counted Carl Palmer as a member in the ’60s).

Suffocation, Atheist, Internal Bleeding @ Market Hotel
New York death metal OGs Suffocation are gearing up to tour with Despised Icon later this year, but first they play a smaller headlining home state show tonight.

Mavis Staples @ The Surf Lodge
Montauk’s The Surf Lodge welcomes soul legend Mavis Staples as part of their annual summer concert series. She’s currently on tour behind her 2019 LP We Get By, which dropped last month.

Caravela, Florida Man, The Hot Flood, Winded, Canceler @ Gold Sounds
Local indie/emo staples Caravela are doing a short run with rising Fugazi-esque post-hardcore band Florida Man, which hits Caravela’s hometown tonight.

Biz Markie (DJ set), Danny Krivit, Operator Emz, DJ Misbehaviour, The Duchess, L&L&L Record Club @ 99 Scott Ave.
Legendary rapper and DJ Biz Markie headlines this “Vinyl BBQ” event at 99 Scott Ave. today, which is exactly how it sounds: expect to hear tons of groovy tunes at this free, all-day event, complemented with tasty barbecue and beer.

Chris Stein, John Doe (Talking Punk Rock & Books) @ City Winery
John Doe’s new book More Fun in the New World: The Unmaking and Legacy of L.A. Punk is his second in a series chronicling the storied LA punk scene. He’ll sign copies of the new book, and discuss it tonight in a special talk with Blondie’s Chris Stein.
