What's going on Sunday?

You can browse our full NYC show calendar for all of tonight’s shows, but here are some highlights…

Little Simz, April, Vista @ Music Hall of Williamsburg
UK rapper Little Simz’s new album GREY Area is one of the best rap albums to come out this year on either side of the Atlantic. It’s got everything from warlike aggression to sentimental ballads, and Simz is such a strong MC that it’s no surprise artists like Kendrick Lamar and Lauryn Hill are fans.

Jackson Browne, Lucius @ Beacon Theatre
Legendary songwriter Jackson Browne kicks off a four-night run at Beacon Theatre tonight, accompanied by very solid openers Lucius, who Jackson has praised in the past.

Les Negresses Vertes @ Central Park SummerStage
It’s Francerocks’ annual Fête de la Musique with long-running Parisian band Les Negresses Vertes who have been called France’s equivalent to The Pogues. This show was supposed to be with Philippe Zdar who sadly died earlier this week.

Dead & Company @ Citi Field
If you want to recreate the old Grateful Dead stadium show experience, complete with the parking lot culture and a setlist full of fan favorites, Dead & Company (with surviving Grateful Dead members Bob Weir, Mickey Hart, and Bill Kreutzmann) is about the closest you can get in 2019.

The Raconteurs @ Coney Island Baby
Jack White, Brendan Benson and crew play their third of four NYC-area shows this week behind their great new comeback LP Help Us Stranger. If you didn’t win tickets through the band’s Third Man Vault/TIDAL contests, you have a chance to grab limited $20 tickets available at the door today only.

Sheila E., Musiq Soulchild @ Flushing Meadows-Corona Park
Famed percussionist and onetime Prince associate Sheila E. heads to the famed Flushing Meadows-Corona Park, where she’ll hopefully perform hits like “The Glamorous Life,” “A Love Bizarre,” and others.

The Head and the Heart, Young The Giant, Fitz & the Tantrums, Chris Carrabba of Dashboard Confessional, and Smith and Thell @ Forest Hills Stadium
New York alt-rock radio station ALT 92.3’s Summer Open at Forest Hills Stadium continues today with indie folkies The Head and the Heart, soul rockers Fitz & the Tantrums, a solo set from emo veteran Chris Carrabba, and more.

Jonathan Toubin’s Summer Soul Scream w/ YASSS, Native Sun @ Our Wicked Lady
Jonathan Toubin is throwing the latest installment in his “Soul Scream” party series, which occurs every Sunday night this summer on the rooftop of Bushwick’s Our Wicked Lady. Bands at 8 PM and the dance party starts at 10.

The Ocean Blue, Suburban Living @ Rough Trade
Influenced by The Smiths and Echo & The Bunnymen, Pennsylvania group The Ocean Blue were college and alt-rock radio faves in the late-’80s and early-’90s, and made a comeback this decade.

Hot Water Music, Beach Rats @ Saint Vitus (two shows)
Gainesville punk vets Hot Water Music have been celebrating their 25th anniversary on tour this year and playing classic albums in full, but they also released a new EP (their first for Epitaph in years) which finds them in fine form. Tonight, they’re back in NYC for two up-close-and-personal shows at Saint Vitus which should hopefully get extra rowdy. Beach Rats — who have members of Lifetime, Bouncing Souls, Dag Nasty, Bad Religion, and Minor Threat — are not to miss.

Jon Glaser @ The Bell House
Absurdist comedian Jon Glaser is “Coming to Town,” even though he lives here, and is bringing Scott Adsit (30 Rock) with him. Jon’s been doing a few of these shows with Scott, working out a new show.

Circuit Des Yeux (solo), Jemeel Moondoc Trio @ Union Pool (SUMMER THUNDER)
One of our favorite weekend events during the warm months is Union Pool’s free Summer Thunder series which this year moved from Saturdays to Sundays. Today’s it’s Haley Fohr doing a solo Circuit Des Yeux set, with jazz sax great Jemeel Moondoc leading a trio. Free, 2 PM start.

Erin Durant and the Islands Band, Kyp Malone’s Rainbow Love Machine, Erika Spring @ Union Pool
Folk singer Erin Durant is releasing her new album Islands on Keeled Scales this Friday (pushed back from this past Friday), and the release show is tonight. It’s a cool bill all around with Kyp Malone of TV on the Radio and Erika Spring of Au Revoir Simone.

Days N Daze, Public Serpents, Cop/Out, Fat Heaven @ The Safari Room at El Cortez
Houston folk punk (or, “thrashgrass”) band Days N Daze are in NYC, having just played Punk Island yesterday, and they’re sticking around for a last-minute show at El Cortez tonight.
