What's going on Sunday?

Oh Sees at Warsaw
Oh Sees @ Warsaw (more by Ebru Yildiz)

You can browse our full NYC show calendar for all of tonight’s shows, but here are some highlights…

Thee Oh Sees, Prettiest Eyes, Jimmy Whispers @ Warsaw
Oh Sees are one of those groups, like The Fall, who are constantly morphing but always remain true to themselves. Face Stabber sounds nothing at all like 2008’s The Master’s Bedroom Is Worth Spending a Night In, but you can tell the same person is behind both. Their latest album, Face Stabber, adds jazz to the mix.

Luna (performing Penthouse) @ Bowery Ballroom
Luna are on a tour where they’re playing a variety of their albums in full, and tonight is the third of a few NYC shows, and will perform their great 1995 album, Penthouse.

David Byrne’s American Utopia @ Hudson Theatre
David Byrne has retooled his acclaimed “untethered” 2018 for the Broadway stage and while the setlist and arrangements are much like what they were on his tour, songs are now threaded together with new monologues from Byrne, making for a much more theatrical experience.

Jim James (of My Morning Jacket), Teddy Abrams (Louisville Orchestra) @ (le) poisson rouge
My Morning Jacket’s Jim James and Teddy Abrams celebrate the release of their collaborative orchestral LP, The Order of Nature, with this show featuring members of the Louisville Orchestra who played on the album.

The Pernice Brothers, Joe Pernice (solo) @ Mercury Lounge
Joe Pernice released his first Pernice Brothers album in nine years, the very good Spread the Feeling, last month and is on his first full-band tour in just as long. Joe will open with a solo set. It’s early, too: 5 PM doors.

Max Richter (SLEEP), American Contemporary Music Ensemble, Grace Davidson @ PlayStation Theater
Prolific composer Max Richter stops by PlayStation Theater for a two-part performance, consisting of a 90-minute version of his famed night-long work Sleep, and selections from his second album The Blue Notebooks, with help from the American Contemporary Music Ensemble and Grace Davidson.

Sergio Mendes & Bebel Gilberto @ Bergen Performing Arts Center
Two generations of bossa nova greats — Sergio Mendes and Bebel Gilberto, join forces for this jazzy show.

Robert Glasper: Stevie Wonder Tribute featuring Luke James @ Blue Note (two shows)
Robert Glasper continues his month-long residency at the Blue Note Jazz Club, and tonight’s shows are part of a run of Stevie Wonder tributes with guest singer Luke James. Glasper is also known for bringing out other surprise guests at these shows… let’s see if he does tonight.

Macy Gray @ Iridium
Macy Gray isn’t the hitmaking force she once was, but she remains active and last year’s Ruby proves her unmistakable voice is still in fine form. She plays the Iridium tonight and tomorrow.

The Austerity Program, Nerveshatter, Drainage, Alouth @ Gold Sounds Bar
NYC post-hardcore/noise rock staples The Austerity Program returned this year with their new album Bible Songs 1, and they play another hometown show in support of it tonight.

Rosie Tucker, gobbinjr, Winnebago Vacation @ Mercury Lounge
Los Angeles musician Rosie Tucker’s latest LP Never Not Never Not Never Not came out back in March, and tonight’s show features support from NYC-based songwriters gobbinjr and Winnebago Vacation.
