What's going on Sunday?

You can browse our full NYC show calendar for all of tonight’s shows, but here are some highlights…

Kadhja Bonet @ National Sawdust
Psychedelic soul great and multi-instrumentalist Kadhja Bonet brings her show to the intimate National Sawdust tonight.

Summer Walker, Melii @ Terminal 5
Atlanta R&B singer Summer Walker has garnered tons of buzz lately (even appearing on some year-end lists), and Harlem rapper/singer Melii also continues to rise. This is their second of two T5 shows together.

The Spits, Hank Wood and the Hammerheads, Phantasia @ Saint Vitus Bar
Cult-fave melodic punks The Spits are a band who must be seen live, and as these two sold-out Saint Vitus shows prove, their fanbase is as diehard as ever. This is night one, and this one’s extra exciting thanks to direct support from local garage punk greats Hank Wood & the Hammerheads.

In Flames, DJ Alex Kayne @ Sony Hall
Swedish melodeath vets In Flames released their 13th album, I, The Mask, this year, and as far as modern-day In Flames albums go, it’s pretty solid. Expect songs from that one as well as a selection of career-spanning cuts tonight.

Landlady Holiday Spectacular @ The Bell House
The ever-busy and talented Adam Schatz has been throwing the “Landlady Holiday Spectacular” for five years now at The Bell House, always with an impressive roster of performers and collaborators. The 2019 edition features Rafiq Bhatia, Uni Ika Ai, Harlem Gospel Travelers, and others, and the night will also include a tribute to the late Dr. John. There’ll also be holiday readings from BrooklynVegan contributor Dave Hill, Clare O’Kane, and “other various funny people.”

Stander, Greg Fox, Canal Street Electronics, Dan Friel @ The Kingsland
Chicago’s Stander released The Slow Bark earlier this year, a record that pulls from black metal, punk, post-rock and more. Tonight they’re joined by a host of notable local experimentalists, including Greg Foxx and Dan Friel.

Kenan Thompson @ Knitting Factory Brooklyn
When Kenan Thompson isn’t busy with SNL these days, he’s doing the occasional stand-up show, and with the day off, he’s got two scheduled at Knitting Factory: an early show at 1 PM with special guest headliner Carolyn White, and a sold-out late show at 8 PM show with Kenan’s SNL castmate Melissa Villasenor and comedian Matt Friend.

Kevin Hufnagel, Ryan A. Miller, Desertion Trio, Harvey Valdes @ Union Pool
The prolific Kevin Hufnagel, known for his work in many bands including Dysrhythmia, Gorguts, Vaura, headlines Union Pool tonight with support from guitarist Ryan A. Miller, Philly-based Desertion Trio, and Brooklyn guitarist Harvey Valdez.

The World/Inferno Friendship Society @ Amityville Music Hall
The World/Inferno Friendship Society have blended punk, jazz, klezmer, and other styles with a theatrical flair for over two decades, and they’ll play Long Island tonight, in anticipation of their upcoming LP All Borders Are Porous to Cats, out in January.

GRLwood, A Deer A Horse, Splundr @ FM Bar
Louisville two-piece GRLwood call themselves “scream-pop,” and that’s just about the perfect way to sum up their sound, which has one foot in underground ’90s screamo and the other in the same decade’s poppy post-grunge. They released their solid sophomore LP I Sold My Soul To The Devil When I Was 12 earlier this year.

Reverend Billy & The Stop Shopping Choir @ Joe’s Pub
Anti-consumerism activist Reverend Billy preaches his music-filled gospel with his annual holiday show residency at Joe’s Pub.

You can also find quality entertainment on almost any night of the week at: Barbès bar and performance space in Park Slope, LunÀtico in Bed Stuy, Nublu in the East Village, Blue Note jazz club in the West Village, The Stone in multiple locations, Comedy Cellar in the West Village, and Q.E.D. comedy club in Astoria.
