Santigold at Hammerstein Ballroom

What's going on Sunday?

Santigold @ Hammerstein Ballroom earlier this year (more by Gretchen Robinette)

You can browse our full NYC show calendar for all of tonight’s shows, but here are some highlights…

Full Moon Fest @ Governors Island
It’s August so that must mean the reason you’re going to Governors Island is for the Full Moon Fest which this year features SBTRKT, Santigold, Pusha T, Allah-Lahs and more.

Showtime (ft. The Prez, Mikey Freedom Hart and Jen Goma) @ Manhattan Inn
Perhaps fatigued by being associated with groups with long names (A Sunny Day in Glasgow, The Pains of Being Pure at Heart), Jen Goma’s new band is simply called Showtime. They make their live debut tonight. Free, but with a suggested $5-10 donation for the artists.

Buffy Sainte-Marie, Donovan Woods @ Highline Ballroom
Canadian folk legend Buffy Sainte-Marie, who has been making great music for over half a century (her first album was 1964’s It’s My Way!), is touring in support of her fifteenth studio album Power in the Blood. That great late-career album Polaris Music Prize last year, beating Drake, The New Pornographers, and more.

Alexis Taylor, Val-Inc & DJ Brian DeGraw (Gang Gang Dance) @ Le Poisson Rouge
While Hot Chip are known best for danceable synthpop, frontman Alexis Taylor recently stripped it way down for an album with just his piano and voice. He’ll perform in that mode tonight.

Sheer Terror, Forced Reality @ Rocks Off Concert Cruise
NYHC vets Sheer Terror are still an active band, especially in their hometown, and tonight they’ll take their crushing show on a boat.

Billboard Hot 100 Music Festival @ Nikon at Jones Beach Theater
While the Billboard Hot 100 Music Festival is probably better to avoid at all costs, there’s some stuff worth catching here. Today’s lineup includes Calvin Harris, J Cole, Desiigner, and more.

Omni, Eaters @ Mercury Lounge
Omni’s debut album is the kind of catchy, spiky, minimal postpunk that favorably recalls stuff like Wire’s Chair’s Missing, Postcard-era Orange Juice, or Spoon’s A Series of Sneaks. The band, which includes former members of Deerhunter and Carnivores, play this early show tonight (doors 6:30 PM) with Brooklyn synth duo Eaters.

Grooms, Luggage, Outside World, Russian Baths @ The Glove
This Bushwick DIY space (885 Lexington near the Gates Ave J/M stop) is new to us, but we know headliners Grooms well who make krauty, noisy indie rock.

Laura Cantrell, Loose Cattle, Nellie McKay, Anders Parker, Suzzy Roche, Lucy Wainwright Roche, Todd Burge, Tyler Childers, Larry Groce, Ona, Carmella Ramsey, The Carpenter Ants @ Joe’s Pub
This is a benefit aiding flood relief in West Virginia, which was hit hard with 15 inches of rain in two days back in June. There is an early show and a late show, both featuring a mix of nationally established artists and a few singers who are coming up from The Mountain State.
