What's going on Sunday?

Jim James
Jim James

You can browse our full NYC show calendar for all of tonight’s shows, but here are some highlights.

Jim James, Twin Limb @ Terminal 5
The My Morning Jacket frontman’s excellent new solo album, Eternally Even, is loaded with (mostly) positive protest pop that couldn’t be more of the moment. Twin Limb both serves as opener and Jim’s backing band.

Fear Of Men, Weaves, Yohuna @ Baby’s All Right
Kanine Records labelmates Fear of Men and Weaves will wrap up their tour with Mitski tomorrow at Webster Hall but co-headline this more intimate show tonight.

This Will Destroy You, Christopher Tignor @ Bowery Ballroom
Post-rock greats This Will Destroy You are currently on tour playing their debut album Young Mountain and its self-titled followup in full. This is their first of two NYC shows, and their pal/collaborator Christopher Tignor opens this one.

Andrew W.K. @ Music Hall of Williamsburg (speaking tour)
No one philosophizes about partying more than Andrew WK, and now he’s on the road doing a speaking tour dubbed ‘The Power of Partying.’ Should be very educational.

Ex Eye, Twig Harper, Darius Jones @ Saint Vitus
Saxophonist and musical polymath Colin Stetson now also has a metal band, Ex Eye, which is with Liturgy/Zs drummer extraordinaire Greg Fox, guitarist Toby Summerfield and bassist/synth man (and Doveman collaborator) Shahzad Ismaily. They hit Vitus tonight.

DIIV, Moon King, Pill @ Warsaw
DIIV wrap up a busy year that saw them release the acclaimed Is the Is Are back in February and has had them on the road ever since. If you’re going, don’t miss Toronto’s Moon King or skronky punks Pill, they’re both great.

Diamond Head, Old James, Metalfier, Anaka @ Webster Hall
One day after Metallica release their new album, one of Metallica’s biggest influences, Diamond Head, hits NYC. The only classic member remaining is the guitarist, but the show is worth it for his riffs alone (and the band’s new album is not half bad — it ended up on Decibel’s ‘albums of the year’ list).

Mike Birbiglia @ Union Hall
Mike Birbiglia plays big NYC venues like Town Hall and BAM these days, but still likes to test out new material regularly at these “Working it Out” shows at Union Hall. Sold out.

Samiam, Iron Chic, Two Man Advantage, Too Many Voices @ Amityville Music Hall
Emo/punk vets Samiam have been at it since the early ’90s, and the sound they helped pioneer is now more influential than ever. One of the bands who surely take after them, Iron Chic, are opening this tour.

Pile, Guerilla Toss, Jackal Onassis @ Villain
Western Mass loud rockers Pile and art punks Guerilla Toss make for a pretty solid double bill at Villain tonight.

Mavis Staples & Los Lobos @ Tarrytown Music Hall
This show is a benefit for The Food Bank of Westchester, and it features soul legend Mavis Staples and Latin rock vets Los Lobos.
