What’s going on Sunday?

jonathan

You can browse our full NYC show calendar for all of tonight’s shows, but here are some highlights…

Jonathan Richman @ Bowery Ballroom
The Modern Lovers’ debut album is over 40 years old, but Jonathan Richman’s style and heart remains ageless. His current tour is with drummer Tommy Larkins. JoJo plays Monday as well.

Howe Gelb, Mark Eitzel @ Rough Trade
Mark Eitzel is a master storyteller and scene-setter, and his new album Hey Mr. Ferryman is a bigger sounding record than we’ve heard from him in a while, thanks in part to former Suede guitarist Bernard Butler in production and instrumentation roles. Tonight’s show is with Giant Sand’s Howie Gelb.

Charlemagne Palestin & Rhys Chatham Duo, C. Spencer Yeh & HEVM (MV Carbon + Hunter-Hunt-Hendrix + Eve Essex) @ Le Poisson Rouge
Drone maestro Rhys Chatham collaborates with performance artist and musician Charlemagne Palestine and this night of collaborative, improvisational music.

UK Subs @ Berlin (matinee & night show)
British punk legends U.K. Subs, still fronted by Charlie Harper (the sole original member), have been going strong since the ’70s and released a new album as recently as last year (Ziezo). This weekend they play three NYC shows. This is the second and third.

Gucci Mane, Dreezy @ Terminal 5
Atlanta rap staple Gucci Mane has been it at for a while but he’s never actually gone on a proper, lengthy tour until now. Opening is the rising Chicago rapper Dreezy (whose debut album has a song with Gucci).

PnB Rock @ The Marlin Room at Webster Hall
PnB Rock has a collaborative mixtape with Fetty Wap, he’s responsible for the addictive hook on Kodak Black’s “Too Many Years,” and he continues to rise in the world. Tonight he’s in NYC for “Clash of The Titans 2 (Reloaded) Featuring Pnb Rock Hosted by Danny Love w/ Music by Hot 97’s, Dj Enuff & Dj Magic.”

Jojo Abot @ Baby’s All Right
Jojo Abot was born in Ghana but now lives in NYC, and her psychedelic soul sound has traces of both countries’ music. She calls it “FRO-HYPNO-SONIC,” and namedrops influences as disparate as Lana Del Rey and Fela Kuti. She recently got a major co-sign from Lauryn Hill, whose taste is as on point now as ever.
