What's going on Sunday?

Opeth
Opeth

You can browse our full NYC show calendar for all of tonight’s shows, but here are some highlights…

Opeth, Gojira, Devin Townsend Project @ Starland Ballroom
For fans of majestic, progressive metal, this triple bill is unmissable.

The Movielife, The Flatliners, MakeWar @ Amityville Music Hall
Long Island melodic hardcore greats The Movielife are releasing their first album since 2003 this year, but first they’re playing a few intimate shows this month. This one’s on the Island, so you know it’s gonna get crazy.

Friendship, Kath Bloom, Erin Durant, Most Selfless Cheerleader @ Mercury Lounge
Thanks to her classic late ’70s and early ’80s albums, folk singer Kath Bloom is a legend in certain circles. She’s been very active as of late, and has a recently-developed creative relationship with Mark Kozelek, who appears on her newly-released album This Dream of Life.

A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie @ Playstation Theater
Bronx rapper A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie is on a fast rise, as reinforced by this week’s two sold-out shows at NYC’s massive Playstation Theater. This is the first.

Tasseomancy, Mega Bog, Really Big Pinecone @ Union Pool
It’s a nice double bill of ethereal, skewed pop with Candian duo Tasseomancy (who drift into Cocteau Twins territory on 2016’s Do Easy); and jazzy, Brooklyn-based musician Mega Bog.

Stuart Popejoy, Kid Millions (of Oneida), Ava Mendoza @ Knockdown Center
This is the record release party for bassist Stuart Popejoy’s new CD, Pleonid, with help from Oneida drummer Kid Millions.

TV Baby, ESCAPE-ism, Chorizo @ Baby’s All Right
A.R.E. Weapons’ Matt McAuley and Brain McPeck also make music as TV Baby, making more traditional rock (in an ’80s kind of way). They celebrate the release of their new album tonight with Ian Svenonius’ solo project ESCAPE-ism, and Chorizo (members of Xray Eyeballs, Roya, DOM, and others).

4th Annual Grist Comedy Extravaganza: A Benefit for a Future that Doesn’t Suck w/ Eugene Mirman, Aparna Nancherla, Caroline Rhea, David Cross, Jon Glaser, and more @ The Bell House
A lot of great comedians are coming together to raise money for long-running website Grist.
