KRS-One

What's going on Sunday?

You can browse our full NYC show calendar for all of tonight’s shows, but here are some highlights…

KRS-One, DJ Chuck Chillout @ Coffey Park
KRS-One not only helped shape rap as we know as it a member of Boogie Down Productions, but he competed with future generations of rappers as a solo artist as many of his ’80s-era peers were falling off. This year he released The World Is MIND, which has him sounding like the boom bap era never ended, and he sells it with ease. He plays a free show tonight.

Robert Glasper, Phony PPL, Tank and the Bangas @ Central Park SummerStage
Robert Glasper has mastered jazz, hip hop, prog, and more, and no matter what mode he’s in, he’s a real treat to see. This show is free.

Janka Nabay, White Bike, DJ Rainstick @ Baby’s All Right
Sierra Leonean Bubu musician Janka Nabay has gained success in America thanks to signing to David Byrne’s label and collaborating with members of Gang Gang Dance and other indie bands. Seeing him live is really special.

YOB, Godmaker, Statiqbloom @ Saint Vitus
Boundary-pushing metal band YOB had to reschedule some dates earlier this year due to Mike Scheidt’s illness, but he’s doing better now and tonight they conclude their rescheduled three-night run at Vitus.

Black Knights, Ill By Instinct, Fatty Baby Fresh, Timbo King (Royal Fam) & more @ Le Poisson Rouge
Associates and collaborators of both the Wu-Tang Clan and John Frusciante, West Coast rap group Black Knights returned this year with the new album Excalibur (which Frusciante produced).

Kurt Vile @ The Surf Lodge
Before he releases a collaborative album with Courtney Barnett and tours with her later this year, Kurt Vile is playing a few shows that focus on his own material. One of those shows is a free Montauk show tonight.

NYC Pride March & Pride Island
NYC Pride Week culminates with the annual celebratory March, which is followed immediately by Pridefest on Hudson St and then the final night of Pride Island (aka Dance on the Pier) with Nelly Furtado headlining.

John Early, Jacqueline Novak, Hamm, Yazan and the Gates Family Band @ The Bell House
Very funny comedian John Early, who you may know from Broad City, Difficult People, Search Party or the 72 other things he stars in, is presenting this night of comedy and music at The Bell House (early and late shows).
