What's going on Sunday?

Gang Gang Dance in Austin, 2011 (more by Tim Griffin)

You can browse our full NYC show calendar for all of tonight’s shows, but here are some highlights…

Gang Gang Dance, Alexis Taylor, Moses Archuleta @ Baby’s All Right
It’s been six years since NYC’s arty partiers Gang Gang Dance released Eye Contact and went silent since. They’re back, we hear a new album’s on the way, and there will probably be some new songs tonight. Openers — Hot Chip’s Alexis Taylor and Moon Diagrams (Moses of Deerhunter) — are pretty killer too.

Pixies, Sunflower Bean @ The Capitol Theatre
Their new material may not be so hot and Kim Deal may be out of the band, but it’s still worth seeing one of the most influential alternative rock bands of all time.

Brooklyn Comes Alive
The unique jam-oriented weekend of musical improvisation Brooklyn Comes Alive wraps up tonight at Williamsburg, Brooklyn Bowl and Schimanski. Tonight includes tributes to Green Day’s Dookie, Jamiroquai, and Herbie Hancock; plus a jam with George Porter Jr of The Meters; a jam with members of The Disco Biscuits, Umphrey’s McGee, Lotus and The Motet; a set from Lotus/Dopapod offshoot Octave Cat; and more.

Sacred Reich, Carnivore A.D., Byzantine @ Gramercy Theatre
Thrash vets Sacred Reich are on tour celebrating the 30th anniversary of their 1987 debut album Ignorance, and the NYC stop has local support from Carnivore A.D., the new version of Carnivore with Retaliation-era members Marc Carnivore and Louie Beato (RIP Peter Steele).

Larkin Grimm, Julie Lamendola, Sam James @ Three Brewing
Experimental singer/songwriter Larkin Grimm wraps up her September residency at Threes Brewing tonight.

Sasheer Zamata Party Time! @ The Bell House
“Sasheer Zamata (SNL, This American Life) likes to party, spend time with friends and do shows. Watch her do all three of those things at the same time! There will be laughter, merriment, and probably a lot of booze.”
