What's going on Sunday?

The Thermals
The Thermals in Chicago, 2013 (more by Jeff Ryan)

You can browse our full NYC show calendar for all of tonight’s shows, but here are some highlights…

The Thermals, Summer Cannibals, Slothrust @ Bowery Ballroom
The consistently great indie-punks The Thermals sound solid as ever on the recently released We Disappear. Tonight’s their first of two NYC shows in support of it.

The Hum ft. Joan Wasser (of Joan As Police Woman), Mizan, Aerial East, Okay Kaya, Kelsey Lu, Noga Shefi (of Zula), Yuhan Su @ Manhattan Inn
‘The Hum’ is an all-women series of unique collaborations with a mix of original songs and improvised material. Among tonights guests: singer/violinist Joan “As Police Woman” Wasser.

ACME, Greg Fox @ National Sawdust
American Contemporary Music Ensemble (ACME), with special guest Greg Fox, will perform Charlemagne Palestine’s Strumming Music, which they will develop during a residency at National Sawdust.

Asaf Avidan @ Rough Trade
Israeli singer Asaf Avidan kinda sounds like a higher-pitched Leonard Cohen, and last year’s Gold Shadow is a very enjoyable record. His four-show run at Rough Trade concludes tonight.

Eyehatedod, Fight Amp, Deathcycle, Chain Gang Grave @ Saint Vitus
NOLA sludge legends Eyehategod continue their reign as one of the genre’s most punishing bands. Their most recent album, 2014’s self-titled LP, crushes as hard as their classic material. Tonight’s their first of two shows at Saint Vitus this week, and they’ll also be back in NYC to open for Discharge in May.

Floetry @ BB King’s
Neo-soul/hip hop duo Floetry — aka Marsha Ambrosius and The Floacist — reunited last year and they’re back on the road once again.

Mike Birbiglia @ The Lynn Redgrave Theater
Comedian Mike Birbiglia has been doing his show “Thank God for the Jokes” for nearly two years. He’s putting it to bed, but not before this run which was recently extended through May 22. Sold out but a limited number of tickets given away free each night via lottery.

Risk! ft. Kevin Allison @ Bell House
RISK! is a live show and podcast created and hosted by Kevin Allison (MTV’s The State, Comedy Bang! Bang!, Reno 911!, etc), where people tell true stories they never thought they’d dare to share. Tonight’s guests are Carla Rhodes, Jacob Phillips, Justin Sayre, Nore Davis, and Micaela Blei.

Kiki & Herb @ Joe’s Pub
Legendary lounge/cabaret duo Kiki and Herb (aka Justin Vivian Bond and Kenny Mellman) went into retirement in 2007 but they’re returning to the stage for this run called “Kiki and Herb: Seeking Asylum!” Sold out but a limited number of tickets given away free each night via lottery.
