Quicksand, No Joy @ Irving Plaza
Walter Schreifels’ highly influential post-hardcore band Quicksand are about to release Interiors, their first album in 22 years, in November via Epitaph. Ahead of that, they’re on tour previewing a new songs and playing tons of classics. They’re in NYC for two shows with shoegazers No Joy. This is night two.

Warzone tribute to Raybeez, Kill Your Idols, Fireburn, Shutdown, Regulate @ Tompkins Square Park
To commemorate the 20th anniversary of Warzone vocalist Raybeez’s death, members of that band are playing this 1 PM matinee with tons of impressive guest vocalists, including Walter Schreifels (Quicksand, Gorilla Biscuits, etc), Sick Of It All vocalist Lou Koller and bassist Craig Setari, Madball vocalist Freddy Cricien, Killing Time vocalist Anthony Comunale, Dany Diablo (Skarhead, Crown Of Thornz, etc), and still more.

Stiff Little Fingers, Death By Unga Bunga @ Gramercy Theatre
Irish punk legends Stiff Little Fingers are celebrating their 40th anniversary this year. Having just played Asbury Park last night, they’re in NYC tonight.

Negative Approach, Ron + Scott: A Stooges Tribute, Posers, The Minutes @ The Safari Room at El Cortez
Negative Approach frontman John Brannon’s band Easy Action is about to play two Brooklyn shows with Dinosaur Jr, but first Negative Approach plays this show with Stooges cover band Ron + Scott. Past Rob + Scott shows have included Dinosaur Jr’s J Mascis as a member. Will he show up tonight?

Mitski, Soccer Mommy @ White Eagle Hall
Mitski has been touring all year in continued support of last year’s great Puberty 2. She hits Jersey City tonight.

Thundercat, Saco & Uno, PBDY @ Brooklyn Steel
Thundercat is riding high off the release of this year’s Drunk and he continues to get bigger and bigger. This week, he headlines two back-to-back nights at Brooklyn Steel. This is night two.

Krimewatch, Haram, Subspace, Royal Hounds, Twisted Thing @ Brooklyn Bazaar
Discipline Press presents its inaugural benefit show tonight, with a solid punk bill led by local feminist hardcore band Krimewatch.

Francis and the Lights @ Public Arts
Having just opened for his collaborator Chance the Rapper at two big Forest Hills Stadium shows, Francis and the Lights now does a three-night residency at a much smaller NYC venue. This is the final night.

Paul Weller @ The Paramount
Having fronted two classic bands and had a long and successful solo career, “modfather” Paul Weller continues to be a class act, having released A Kind of Revolution earlier this year. He plays Long Island tonight ahead of two nights at NYC’s Irving Plaza.

Selector Dub Narcotic (Calvin Johnson), 75 Dollar Bill, Gong Gong Gong @ Sunnyvale
Beat Happening frontman and K Recs domo Calvin Johnson plays under his Selector Dub Narcotic guise, where he mixes dancehall, soul, punk, garage, R&B, rock steady, bubblegum and rockabilly into a sound distinctly his own. His distinctive baritone ties it all together. This is a pretty cool bill overall, with experimental duo 75 Dollar Bill and Beijing band Gong Gong Gong.

Yelle, Glassio (DJ) @ Rough Trade
French pop artist Yelle hasn’t released an album since 2014’s Complètement Fou, but things are stirring in her world with a string of new singles. This is her final of three Rough Trade shows this weekend.

Trashcan Sinatras (acoustic) @ Joe’s Pub
Scottish indiepop royalty, Trashcan Sinatras are playing acoustic tonight and taking requests!

Chicago @ Ford Amphitheater at Coney Island Boardwalk
Celebrating 50 years of horn-fueled pop, Chicago play this Saturday that you may misremember in years to come as happening in a park on the fourth of July.
