What's going on Sunday?

You can browse our full NYC show calendar for all of tonight’s shows, but here are some highlights…

American Football, Land of Talk, Pure Bathing Culture @ Brooklyn Steel
Influential emo band American Football returned last year with their first album since their 1999 debut, and they already say they have a third album coming. Their live shows are better than ever, and both openers on this show are great. Land of Talk also recently made a comeback, releasing their first album in seven years this year.

Parquet Courts, B Boys @ Elsewhere
Parquet Courts play their last NYC show of the year at PopGun’s just-opened Bushwick club Elsewhere — hopefully they’ll play a few songs from their collaborative album with Daniele Luppi and Karen O.

Squeeze @ Beacon Theatre
Still led by gifted songwriting duo Chris Difford and Glenn Tilbrook, Squeeze bring their large catalog of classics (and songs from new album The Knowledge) to one of the nicest rooms in NYC.

Janet Jackson @ Prudential Center
Having delayed her 2016 “Unbreakable” tour to have a child, Janet Jackson is now on the road with this tour that is reportedly modeled on her Rhythm Nation 1814 tour.

Brooklyn Podcast Festival
The Brooklyn Podcast Festival continues tonight with Reductress Presents: Mouth Time Live! and Serious Matters.

Jonathan Richman (w/ Tommy Larkins), Xylouris White @ The Kitchen
Part of The Kitchen’s fall season, JoJo will be playing five nights with longtime drummer/compatriot Tommy Larkins. Duo Xylouris White open all five and this is night 2.

The Brooklyn Podcast Festival
The inaugural Brooklyn Podcast Festival, of which BrooklynVegan is the exclusive media partner, wraps up tonight with Good Christian Fun (featuring Kevin T Porter of Gilmore Guys), Food 4 Thot, and more.

Lola Kirke, Avi Buffalo, Cassandra Jenkins @ Baby’s All Right
Part of the Kirke family (Jemima who co-starred on GIRLS, and Domino who is also a singer), Lola Kirke is both an actor (Mozart in the Jungle) and a singer-songwriter. She plays tonight with Avi Bufalo (back in action after disbanding) and talented NYC singer-songwriter Cassandra Jenkins.

6LACK, Sabrina Claudio, Sy Ari Da Kid @ Irving Plaza
Atlanta R&B singer 6LACK continues to rapidly rise, and he returns to NYC this week for his biggest shows here yet.

Hannibal Buress @ Knitting Factory
Before Hannibal Buress was a famous comedian and an actor on Broad City, he had a regular comedy show at Knitting Factory. Knit is currently celebrating its 30th anniversary, and Hannibal is returning to the venue to help celebrate. Sold out.

Advance Base, Friendship, Sound of Ceres
This is a great bill all around, with the bedroom singer/songwriter-style indie of Advance Base and Friendship, and the shoegazy Sound of Ceres (ex-Candy Claws).

Circa Survive, Thrice, Balance and Composure @ Starland Ballroom
Thrice are celebrating the 10th anniversary of their Alchemy Index EP series, and while they won’t be playing the whole thing, you can expect more songs from those EPs than an average Thrice show. Circa Survive released their latest album The Amulet this year and Balance & Composure released their Vagrant debut Light We Made last year.

Ikue Mori, John Zorn, Ches Smith, Jim Staley, Michael Nicholas, Anthony Coleman, David Watson @ The Stone
It’s an improv benefit night at The Stone with a bunch of the venue’s regulars, including artistic director John Zorn.
