What's going on Sunday?

Murray Hill
Murray Hill

You can browse our full NYC show calendar for all of tonight’s shows, but here are some highlights…

Yo La Tengo @ Bowery Ballroom
Yo La Tengo’s annual Hanukkah run shows at Maxwell’s in Hoboken were the stuff of legend. Surprise openers! Comedians! Special mix CDs every night! Five years later, Yo La Tengo have brought Hanukkah shows back, now at Bowery Ballroom. It’s Night 6 — who do you think will be tonight’s opener comedian and encore guest?

Lil Uzi Vert, Playboi Carti, DJ Austin Millz, Lil Skies @ Terminal 5
Frequent collaborators Lil Uzi Vert and Playboi Carti both released some of the most popular and most acclaimed rap songs of the year, and now they’re on tour with each other (not for the first time). They play NYC’s huge Terminal 5 tonight and tomorrow.

Lydia Lunch Retrovirus, The Art Gray Noizz Quintet, Russian Baths @ Rough Trade
No wave legend Lydia Lunch continues to stay active and lately she’s been focusing on her Retrovirus project, which also includes Weasel Walter, Bob Bert, and Tim Dahl. Lydia is promising to play music from Teenage Jesus and the Jerks, 8 Eyed Spy, Queen of Siam, 1313 and Shotgun Wedding tonight.

LCD Soundsystem @ Brooklyn Steel
It’s been quite a year for James Murphy who came back with a fourth LCD Soundsystem album, American Dream, that ended up being worth the grief of their “comeback” after breaking up in 2011. They wrap up their 2017 with a 10-night run on their home turf, this being night 5. James started off the week sick, but should hopefully be fully on the mend tonight.

Dave Harrington & friends Holiday Spectacular w/ Elvis Perkins, Peter Silberman, Brian Chase, Nick Murphy (fka Chet Faker), Jen Goma, Kaki King, Greg Fox, and more! @ Elsewhere
It’s a holiday tradition that one year even featured Mandy Patinkin! He’s not on the bill tonight, but a whole lot of other artists are.

Tall Juan, Stuyedeyed, Fruit & Flowers @ Brooklyn Bazaar
Brooklyn’s Fruit & Flowers pull from a variety of ’60s influences (paisley pop, surf, garage) but don’t particularly retro. The songs on this year’s Drug Tax are poppy, hooky and energetic, all tied together with their vocal harmonies.

A Murray Little Christmas starring Murray Hill, Bridget Everett, Angie Pontani @ Joe’s Pub
Borsht belt drag comedian Murray Hill hosts his annual “A Murray Little Christmas” with bawdy comedian Bridget Everett and more tonight.

Moist Paula, Kyp Malone (of TV on the Radio), Patrick Holmes, Nick Lyons @ Union Pool
This is one of Union Pool’s casual “Afternon Hangs,” offering mellow collaborative spirit, today with TVotR’s Kyp Malone, and in-demand saxophonist Moist Paula. Free, 2 PM.

Eliot Glazer’s Haunting Renditions @ Littlefield
If you’ve never experienced Haunting Renditions, Eliot takes pop songs and turns them into sweeping, highbrow ballads. Tonight, as you might expect, it’s all holiday songs and he’ll be joined by his sister, Ilana, and comedian Judy Gold.

Los Lobos @ City Winery
It’s time for Los Lobos’ annual holiday shows at City Winery and they play their first of three shows tonight.

Justin Vivian Bond: Manger Danger! Jesus as a Weapon and a Tool @ Joe’s Pub
Right after Murray, Justin Vivian Bond’s unique Christmas show continues its run at Joe’s Pub. What is this show all about? We’ll let Justin do the talking: “I think I’m in LOVE with JESUS but it’s difficult because a lot of HIS FOLLOWERS totally HATE ME. (I know, the irony is not lost on me either) Anyway, I’m confused because I’m fully committed to bringing down the patriarchy but I’M TOTALLY CRUSHED OUT ON THE SON OF GOD! Please forgive me for co-opting your holiday to work it out publicly in my new show ‘Manger Danger! Jesus as a Weapon and a Tool.’”
