What’s going on (SuperBowl) Sunday?

You can browse our full NYC show calendar for all of tonight’s shows, but here are some highlights…

It’s Super Bowl Sunday with the Philadelphia Eagles facing off against the New England Patriots. Some watch only for the commercials and others only check in for the half time show, this year with Justin Timberlake.

Jools Holland @ Blue Note
These days Jools Holland is best known as host of popular musical variety series Later…With Jools Holland which has aired on BBC 2 since 1992. He is, of course, an acclaimed musician in his own right, having been an off-and-on member of Squeeze in the ’70s, ’80s and ’90s and currently leads Jools Holland’s Rhythm and Blues Orchestra. His four-night run at Blue Note — his first NYC shows in 15 years — finishes tonight.

Brockhampton @ Irving Plaza
Rap collective (or “boy band”) Brockhampton released THREE albums last year and all three were among the best albums of 2017. Paired with a killer live show, Brockhampton were one of the best breakout groups of the year in any genre, and they’re keeping it going in 2018. They have a fourth album promised for this year, and wrap up their sold-out GovBall-presented three-night stand at Irving Plaza tonight.

Wolf Eyes, Trip Mental Movement, Yatta @ Secret Project Robot
Wolf Eyes conclude their weekend SPR residency with this show where “5 choreographers unfold psycho jazz trip mentalism movement scores in Model Home 2.0 during WOLF EYES set.” Wolf Eyes will be performing with mv Carbon.

Ed Askew Band, Colin Langenus, Blaine Todd, Nighttime @ The Map Room at The Bowery Electric
Folk legend Ed Askew released two albums last year, one with new material and one archival release with recordings from 1969-1970. Any chance to see him live is a real treat.

Jose James @ The Blue Note
Neo-soul great Jose James is celebrating the 10th anniversary of his 2008 debut album The Dreamer with a residency at the Blue Note starting tonight and running through February 8. He plays two shows each night.

Nikki Glaser, Mark Normand, Sean Patton, Aida Rodriguez, Tim Dillon, Dante Nero @ The Stand
Nikki Glaser, who is a writer on Inside Amy Schumer and hosted her own series on Comedy Central, Not Safe with Nikki Glaser, headlines tonight at The Stand.
