Rainer Maria at Saint Vitus
Rainer Maria at Saint Vitus (more by Amanda Hatfield)

What's going on Thursday?

You can browse our full NYC show calendar for all of tonight’s shows, but here are some highlights…

Rainer Maria, The Van Pelt, Gold Dime @ Elsewhere
Rainer Maria returned last year with their first album in 11 years, S/T, and it’s a noticeable progression from the music they made during their initial run as a band. Tonight’s got a great bill all around, with fellow reunited indie/emo vets The Van Pelt, and Talk Normal offshoot Gold Dime.

Phoebe Bridgers, Soccer Mommy @ Music Hall of Williamsburg
Phoebe Bridgers had one of the best debut albums of last year with the highly emotional, folky indie rock of Stranger in the Alps. She’s back in NYC for two sold-out shows this week (MHOW tonight and Bowery Ballroom tomorrow). Both are with the Fat Possum-signed Soccer Mommy, who is a great match for Phoebe Bridgers.

Pianos Become The Teeth, Praise, Sainthood Reps @ Saint Vitus
Last week, post-hardcore greats Pianos Become the Teeth released their powerful new album Wait For Love, and they’re currently celebrating it with some release shows. All shows are with the Revolution Summer-inspired Praise, which makes for a great pairing, and tonight’s show has additional support from post-hc locals Sainthood Reps.

Screaming Females, Teenage Halloween @ Monty Hall
Shredding punk trio Screaming Females are releasing their new album All At Once this week via Don Giovanni, and the Jersey band are celebrating the release with three shows in their home state. This is night one.

Pill, Lizzi Bougatsos of Gang Gang Dance (DJ) @ MoMA
As part of MoMA’s exhibition on storied downtown hotspot Club 57, they’re brining a little modern No Wave tonight with sax-fueled skronkers Pill, and Gang Gang Dance’s Lizzi Bougatsos on DJ duty. Admission ($20) includes live music, DJ set, xerographic art-making, open bar, and access to the exhibition. 7 – 10 PM.

STRFKR, Reptaliens @ Brooklyn Steel
Portland’s weirdo pop outfit STRFKR are paired with another Northwest synthpop group, Reptaliens (whose debut is out on Captured Tracks).

Demetri Martin @ The Bell House (two shows)
Like a more manic, huggable, musical Steven Wright, Demetri Martin favors one-liners and he may have already moved on to the next one by the time you get the joke.

Valley Lodge, Happy Chichester @ Mercury Lounge
In addition to doing standup comedy and writing books, Dave Hill fronts the power pop band Valley Lodge, who you might know from their song “Go” (aka the theme to Last Week Tonight with John Oliver), play NYC tonight.
