What's going on Thursday?

let-go

You can browse our full NYC show calendar for all of tonight’s shows, but here are some highlights…

Nada Surf @ Brooklyn Steel
Nada Surf’s 2003 album Let Go was where they really hit on their  sound that would blueprint the rest of their career and is considered by many to be the band’s high-water mark. They’ll play it in full tonight in celebration of the LP’s 15th anniversary, along with a second set of favorites from their other records.

Nyck Caution, Dessy Hinds, Dirty Sanchez, Jayy Grams @ SOB’s
Last year, Nyck Caution released a collaborative album with fellow Pro Era member Kirk Knight as Nyck @ Knight. Nyck and Kirk are both opening the Flatbush Zombies tour later this year, but first Nyck plays a one-off solo show tonight with fellow Pro Era members Dessy Hinds and Dirty Sanchez.

Nathaniel Rateliff and The Night Sweats @ Apollo Theater
Soulful rockers Nathaniel Rateliff & the Night Sweats are releasing a new album on Stax Records tomorrow, but first they play Harlem’s historic Apollo Theatre tonight. They also have a big Forest Hills Stadium show in June.

Deer Tick, Solomon Georgio @ The Stone Pony
Deer Tick are as active as ever and last year they released not one but two albums, an “acoustic” album and a “rock” album.

Pantha du Prince, Logan Takahashi, Aria Rostami @ Elsewhere
Experiimental electronic musician Pantha du Prince released an “ambient version” of his 2016 album The Triad last year, and this year the German musician is back in the US to play a Brooklyn show tonight.

Augusta Koch (Cayetana), Anika Pyle (Katie Ellen), Think Tank, Booing @ Brooklyn Bazaar Cellar Lounge
Augusta Koch and Anika Pyle both front very good indie rock bands, Cayetana and Katie Ellen, respectively, and now they’re out on a solo tour together.

Pist.on, Netherlands, King Pussy Face Wrench @ Saint Vitus
Brooklyn metal vets Pist.on ran in the same circles as Type O Negative and Life of Agony back in the day, and if you were into that stuff, it should be exciting news to hear that Pist.on are back after breaking up in 2001. They’re touring Europe in June, but first they’re playing this hometown one-off tonight. Opening is Netherlands, a newer Brooklyn band who should appeal to fans of Pist.on, and Wrench, another reunited Brooklyn band from the ’90s with connections to Type O and LOA.

UPDATE: Pist.on have decided to reschedule this show for a later date due to yesterday’s storm, and instead Saint Vitus is putting on a free with show Netherlands, King Pussy Face, and one more band TBA tonight. Stay tuned for the rescheduled Pist.on date.

Joe Russo’s Almost Dead @ Brooklyn Bowl
Joe Russo has played with actual Grateful Dead members, and his tribute band Joe Russo’s Almost Dead is one of the finer Dead tribute bands going today. They’re doing a Brooklyn Bowl run this week.

Tycho (DJ), Baltra, Cranks @ Output
Tycho’s live shows are actual full-band live shows and almost more like post-rock than electronic music, but he DJs too and he’ll do that tonight.

Elvis Costello & The Imposters @ The Capitol Theatre
When Elvis pulled out of a Las Vegas residency, New York became the beneficiary of his and The Imposters’ free time, who will play four area shows this week, starting tonight. The Imposters feature original Attractions drummer Pete Thomas and keyboardist Steve Nieve. and Elvis has 50 years of great songwriting to pull from

ESG, Future Punx, Kino Kimino, Revel In Dimes, DJ Jordan Stern @ Bowery Electric
Bridging funk, post-punk and hip hop, the Scroggins sisters sounded like nothing else before them, and cuts like “Moody” and “You’re No Good” are timeless classics. They’re celebrating their 40th anniversary tonight.

Springsteen on Broadway @ Walter Kerr Theatre
The Boss continues his completely sold-out “Springsteen on Broadway” run at the Walter Kerr Theatre, which has now been extended through June! At these shows, Bruce is giving fans shows “that are as personal and as intimate as possible.”

Bowl Train w/ Nancy Whang: ‘Ladies’ Night – Strictly Female Artists, All Night’ @ Brooklyn Bowl
Celebrate International Women’s Day with this special edition of Bowl Train featuring LCD Soundsystem’s Nancy Whang spinning “strictly female artists.”

Michelle Wolf @ Caroline’s
Comedian Michelle Wolf’s star is rising — she’s hosting this year’s White House Correspondents Dinner and will have her own Netflix late night talk show later this year. Catch her in standup mode tonight.
