Madeline Kenney recently released her new album Perfect Shapes, which was produced by Wye Oak and Flock of Dimes’ Jenn Wasner and features a nice collection of atmospheric art pop.
Christine and The Queens, Dounia @ Brooklyn Steel
Christine and the Queens returned this year with her sophomore album Chris, which sees her continuing to toy with the boundaries of pop music and gender. She brings her lively live show to Brooklyn Steel tonight for her second of two consecutive shows.
The Twilight Sad, Yohuna @ Elsewhere
Scottish indie rock staples are gearing up to release their new album It Won/t Be Like This All the Time in January, and while we wait for that, they’re previewing some new songs from it on tour.
Death Valley Girls, Gymshorts, The Listeners @ Mercury Lounge
Gothy garage rockers Death Valley Girls just released revved-up new LP Darkness Rains, and played Jonathan Toubin’s Haunted Hop last night.
The Generator Series w/ Ilana Glazer @ Murmrr Theatre
You may remember that Broad City‘s Ilana Glazer hosted the four-part “Generator Series” in July where she interviewed activists and politicians “to see how they each serve us – the people.” She’s bringing the Generator Series back for four nights leading up to the midterm elections.
Cloud Cult (live and in conversation) @ The Greene Space
Anthemic, uplifting Minnesota band Cloud Cult play this show that is part of the Reimagine Life Festival that is an “exploration of death and celebration of life through creativity and conversation.” Frontman Craig Minowa will also take part in a conversation in addition to the band’s performance.
Steve Gunn, Loren Connors, Alan Licht, DJ Helen Rush @ Union Pool
Steve Gunn continues his three-Thursday, full-band Union Pool residency tonight where we’re likely to get a few early listens to songs from his forthcoming The Unseen in Between.
Titus Andronicus, Spider Bags, The Double Negatives @ House of Independents
Titus Andronicus released a ballad-heavy album this year and spent a lot of the year playing acoustic shows, but now they’re back out on a full-band tour playing some new songs but also tons of punk ragers from earlier in their career. The tour hits several NY/NJ venues this week.
Okay Kaya, Ariel East, b o t @ Music Hall of Williamsburg
Okay Kaya has some high-profile collaborations with King Krule and Porches but she also makes worthy music on her own, and released her debut album Both this year.
Phil Lesh & the Terrapin Family Band @ The Capitol Theatre
The Grateful Dead’s Phil Lesh is on night two of his three-night Phil-O-Ween run at the Cap, and this one will have the Terrapin Family Band joined by Jimmy Herring (of Widespread Panic) and Karl Denson.
Brian Wilson @ State Theatre
Brian Wilson has more Pet Sounds shows coming up and he’s also doing a tour of the Beach Boys’ Christmas album this holiday season, but tonight he’s playing a “greatest hits” set in New Brunswick.
Morning Teleportation, Desert Noises, Max Pain And The Groovies @ Elsewhere Zone One
Bowling Green, KY’s Morning Teleportation make proggy, poppy psych, as heard mostl recently on last year’s Salivating for Symbiosis.
Springsteen on Broadway
The Boss continues his sold-out “Springsteen on Broadway” run at the Walter Kerr Theatre, which runs through December. At these shows, Bruce is giving fans shows “that are as personal and as intimate as possible.”
