You can browse our full NYC show calendar for all of tonight’s shows, but here are some highlights…

Eric B & Rakim @ Sony Hall
Rap music as we know it wouldn’t exist without the influence of legendary duo Eric B & Rakim, so needless to say, it was very exciting when they finally reunited for their first time in two decades, and even more exciting when they kept the reunion going. They play their hometown again tonight.

Thursday, Weekend @ Music Hall of Williamsburg
Instead of their usual home state holiday show, NJ post-hardcore vets Thursday are spending the holidays in Brooklyn this year with a four-night run at Music Hall of Williamsburg. They’re playing Full Collapse in full on nights one and two, and War All The Time in full on nights two and four. Shoegazy locals Weekend open nights one and two, and The Movielife frontman Vinnie Caruana opens nights three and four. This is night one.

A Sally Can’t Dance Holiday Tribute to The Ramones @ Bowery Electric
Monthly party Sally Can’t Dance pays tribute to the Ramones, with guest appearances by Alexander Orange Drink (So So Glos), Paul Bearer (Sheer Terror), Walter Lure (Johnny Thunders And The Heartbreakers), Mickey Leigh, Michael T. (Michael T. And The Vanities), Mick Stitch (LES Stitches), Gordon Lawrence (Beechwood), Cristoph (Crazy & The Brains), Mikey Smokes (Newborns), Tall Juan, Lynne Von Pang (The Carvels NYC), Dina Regine, Steve Krebs, Bosco Delrey, Miss Guy (Toilet Boys), Jill Fiore

The Roots @ The Wellmont Theater
The busiest band in hip hop are in the midst of their annual holiday tour. No NYC show, but they’ll be nearby in Montclair tonight.

Dead Meadow, Liquid/Light Lab (projections), Ruby the Hatchet, Ecstatic Vision @ Knitting Factory Brooklyn
Long-running psych-rock greats Dead Meadow’s shows (and new music) are as trippy as ever, and that should especially be the case with projections by Liquid/Light Lab tonight. This is their first of two Knitting Factory shows this week.

Playboi Carti @ The Paramount
Playboi Carti had one of the year’s most acclaimed rap albums with Die Lit, and before the year ends, he’s hitting Long Island for a show tonight.

Julian Lynch, Evan Only, Nicole Schneit @ Elsewhere Zone One
While he spends a lot of time these days as a member of Real Estate, Julian Lynch has his own music career as well and will release new album, Rat’s Spit, on January 18 via Underwater Peoples. Nicole of Air Waves has a solo set on this bill as well.

Oteil & Friends featuring Oteil Burbridge, Melvin Seals, Eric Krasno, John Kadlecik, Jay Lane, & Jennifer Hartswick @ The Capitol Theatre
Oteil Burbridge is busy as a member of Dead & Company these days, but this week he’s taking the time to do a run of NYC-area shows as a bandleader, and he’s got some seriously impressive guests.

Talib Kweli (DJ set), NIKO IS, K’Valentine @ Brooklyn Bowl
It’s the Javotti Holiday Party with Brooklyn rap vet Talib Kweli spinning and more.

Sandra Bernhard: “Quick Sand” @ Joe’s Pub
Sandra Bernhard is playing Joe’s Pub through New Year’s Eve, a show she’s calling “Quick Sand” that is a “mélange of musings, music and whimsy.”
