What's Going on Thursday?

Panorama 2018 Saturday
Japanese Breakfast @ Panorama 2018 (more by Amanda Hatfield)

You can browse our full NYC show calendar for all of tonight’s shows, but here are some highlights…

Yams Day w/ A$AP Mob, Ski Mask the Slump God, more @ Barclays Center
It’s A$AP Mob’s annual Yams Day, in honor of the late A$AP Yams, and — happening at Barclays Center — this is the biggest one yet. Yams Day is known for having exciting guests, and hopefully tonight will be no different.

The Soft Moon, Hide, Void Vision, DJ Nikki Sneakers @ Warsaw
The Soft Moon straddle the line between goth/industrial and are a better live band than most of this kind of stuff (they were tapped by Nine Inch Nails to open L.A. shows last year).

Japanese Breakfast, Palehound, Hand Habits @ Brooklyn Steel
Indie popster Japanese Breakfast continues to rise in the world, and plays two big NYC shows at Brooklyn Steel tonight and tomorrow. This one’s got support from Palehound and Hand Habits, which is a solid bill all around.

Kacey Musgraves, Natalie Prass @ The Capitol Theatre
Kacey Musgraves had one of the best album of last year with the lightly psychedelic country pop of Golden Hour, and she’s now supporting it on tour with Natalie Prass (who released the R&B/disco-inspired The Future and the Past last year). At past tour stops, the two of them joined forces on stage for an “I Will Survive” cover. Will they do it again tonight? After this show, the tour hits NYC’s Beacon Theatre on January 25 and 26.

Yawning Man, Freedom Hawk @ Saint Vitus
Pioneering desert rock band Yawning Man (who heavily influenced Kyuss and whose original drummer Alfredo Hernández went on to play with Kyuss, Queens of the Stone Age, and other related bands) are still active with original guitarist Gary Arce and original bassist Mario Lalli, and this year they released the new album The Revolt Against Tired Noises.

Third Eye Blind, Emily Afton @ Bowery Ballroom
After releasing a covers EP (Bon Iver cover included), Third Eye Blind are now playing some very intimate club shows. This is their second of two sold-out NYC gigs this week.

PAT Party @ Union Pool
It’s time for JD Samson’s monthly PAT Party, featuring “good vibes, good sound, video projection by local video artists and DJ’s that aren’t afraid to go deep.”

Future Punx, Straw Pipes, Godcaster @ Berlin
Brooklyn’s own new wave lovers Future Punx channel Devo and Oingo Boingo, while putting their own postmodern spin on things.
