You can browse our full NYC show calendar for all of tonight’s shows, but here are some highlights…

Bill Callahan, Chris Gantry @ Murmrr Theatre
Bill Callahan made up for a six-year gap between records with the great new 20-song double album Shepherd in a Sheepskin Vest. Expect a lot of classics along with new stuff tonight.

Operators, Doomsquad @ Bowery Ballroom
Dan Boeckner’s band Operators’ new album Radiant Dawn is another fine example of their synthy take on heartland rock; openers DOOMSQUAD make dance music that splits the difference between arty-’80s groups and the early-’00s post-punk revival.

CHVRCHES, Charly Bliss @ Radio City Music Hall
Irish synthpop group Chvrches play one of the nicest rooms in NYC tonight (and play a free show on Friday in Brooklyn). Power popsters Chary Bliss provide direct support.

Mike Birbiglia @ Cherry Lane Theatre
Mike Birbiglia regularly tests out new material with “Working it Out” shows that are often last-minute gigs at tiny clubs like Brooklyn’s Union Hall. This summer, Mike will be “Working it Out” at a residency at Manhattan’s Cherry Lane Theatre that continues tonight and runs through August 15.

Dave Chappelle @ Lunt Fontanne Theatre
Dave Chappelle hasn’t toned things down for his Broadway debut, which runs through July 20. As is usually the case at Chappelle shows, no phones.

Jean Grae @ Joe’s Pub
Rapper, comedian, and podcast host, among other things, Jean Grae presents this “self-produced, composed and directed deep dive into the multi-hyphenate’s many lives.”

Ellie Kemper (a conversation with) @ Town Hall
The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt star Ellie Kemper‘s memoir My Squirrel Days will be was just released on paperback and she’ll talk about it tonight.

Son Little @ Wagner Park (Battery Park City)
The 2019 edition of the free River and Blues series kicks off tonight with soul/R&B singer Son Little. 6 PM.

The Messthetics, Royal Arctic Institute @ WFMU Monty Hall
Featuring Fugazi’s rhythm section (Brendan Canty and Joe Lally) and experimental/jazz guitarist Anthony Pirog, The Messthetics making soaring, powerful, mathy instrumentals.

Surfbort, Crickets, TWOMPSAX, Cumgirl8 @ Baby’s All Right
It’s a wild night of punk presented by Mudguts gallery and headlined by one-of-a-king weirdos Surfbort.

pronoun, Wild Pink @ Rough Trade
Two local NYC indie rock acts, the dream pop-ish pronoun and the heartland rock-ish Wild Pink, team for this appealing local double bill, which is the release show for pronoun’s debut album i’ll show you stronger.

Eli “Paperboy” Reed @ The Archway
Vintage soul revivalist Eli “Paperboy” Reed returned this year with the new album 99 Cent Dreams, and its another batch of songs that see him doing what he does best. Tonight he plays a free show in DUMBO.

Third Eye Blind, Jimmy Eat World, Ra Ra Riot @ Jones Beach
It might sound a little weird on paper (but it’s not really that weird), but ‘90s mallternative rockers Third Eye Blind, emo vets Jimmy Eat World, and ‘00s indie popsters Ra Ra Riot have teamed up for a summer tour. It hits Jones Beach tonight and NJ tomorrow.

Armani White @ Freehold
Rising Philly rapper Armani White left a big impression on us when he opened for Vince Staples in NYC earlier this year, so it’s exciting that he’s back in NYC tonight. It’s free with RSVP.
