What’s going on Thursday?

Kevin Corrigan & Mark Kozelek
Kevin Corrigan & Mark Kozelek

You can browse our full NYC show calendar for all of tonight’s shows, but here are some highlights…

Daughters, HEALTH, Show Me The Body @ Brooklyn Steel
This is an awesome bill all around of three bands who are all loud and in-your-face but also sound nothing alike. Should be a killer night.

Shelter, Rule Them All, Mil Spec, Constant Elevation @ Saint Vitus
Krishnacore legends Shelter remain active, though their shows are pretty rare these days, so it’s exciting that they’re playing Brooklyn tonight and NJ tomorrow. Both shows are with rising Toronto hardcore band Mil-Spec and fellow NY band Constant Elevation, the new project from Vinnie Caruana (The Movielife) and Sammy Siegler (Youth of Today, Judge, etc). This one’s also with rising LIHC band Rule Them All, making for an awesome quadruple bill.

Jesse Malin, Lucinda Williams @ Bowery Ballroom
Having just hosted a tribute to The Clash’s London Calling at Bowery Ballroom, Jesse Malin is back at the venue for a special performance of his 2019 album Sunset Kids with Lucinda Williams (who produced the record) along for the ride.

The Ghosts of the Night Flock: A Standing on the Corner Art Ensemble Holiday Performance Extravaganza @ The Kitchen
Having contributed to recent albums by Solange, Earl Sweatshirt, and Danny Brown, genre-defying jazz/hip hop/etc group Standing on the Corner have already left a lasting impact on popular music and their own material is just as innovative. They’ve got a reputation for putting on great live shows too, but this one will be a little different. Here’s the description: “A one-spooky-night-only song cycle on the mysteries of the season and the holiday rituals of displaced people that link us back. For this special seasonal concert, the art ensemble performs their compositions joined by the angels, ghouls, and ghosts of Christmas past. Shukrani.”

Samantha Urbani @ ELA Taverna
Onetime Friends singer and Blood Orange collaborator Samantha Urbani will perform at this special three-course dinner.

Caged Animals, Turner Cody, Endless Eros @ Park Church Co-Op
Brooklyn’s Caged Animals make the kind of heartfelt pop that we could use more of in these dark times. Tonight’s a stripped down set in a lovely location.

Pete Davidson @ Gramercy Theatre (2 shows)
SNL’s Pete Davidson does two stand-up shows tonight — hopefully you won’t need to sign an NDA to see the show, but you will need to put your smartphone in a Yondr pouch.

Sun Kil Moon (a Christmas show), Kevin Corrigan @ Music Hall of Williamsburg
Prefer your Christmases blue? Sun Kil Moon/Red House Painters’ Mark Kozelek and actor Kevin Corrigan are playing their third-annual holiday show in Brooklyn, where they’ll bring a mix of old holiday favorites (like on Mark’s great 2014 Christmas album), original festive songs, and seasonal stories.

The Mister Santa Pageant 2019 @ The Bell House
Due to mysterious circumstances, the North Pole needs a new Santa and a replacement be chosen tonight. Jo Firestone and Patti Harrison are your hosts and contenders include Will Butler (Arcade Fire), Ana Fabrega, Ziwe Fumudoh, Annie Donley, Sunita Mani, Meg Stalter, Nathan Min, Lorelei Ramirez, Josh Sharp, Spike Einbinder, Amy Zimmer, Ruby McCollister, Clare O’Kane

A Murray Little Christmas @ Joe’s Pub
Drag vet Murray Hill’s “A Murray Little Christmas” shows are a NYC holiday tradition, and this year guests include Bridget Everett, Angie Pontani, Carmine Covelli, Nik Baker, and more.

You can also find quality entertainment on almost any night of the week at: Barbès bar and performance space in Park Slope, LunÀtico in Bed Stuy, Nublu in the East Village, Blue Note jazz club in the West Village, The Stone in multiple locations, Comedy Cellar in the West Village, and Q.E.D. comedy club in Astoria.
