What's going on Thursday?

Rocket From the Crypt
Rocket From the Crypt

You can browse our full NYC show calendar for all of tonight’s shows, but here are some highlights…

Rocket From The Crypt, The So So Glos @ Irving Plaza (BV Presents)
While the return of Drive Like Jehu continues to be exciting, DLJ members aren’t letting that put their other projects to a halt. The great horn-fueled punk and roll band Rocket From the Crypt returns to NYC tonight for a BrooklynVegan-presented show. Quality locals The So So Glos open. Hope to see you there!

The Besnard Lakes, Savants @ Rough Trade
The last time Montreal’s Besnard Lakes were in town, they ended up being the only high profile band to actually play the day of Winter Storm Jonas. Snow drifts shouldn’t be an issue tonight.

Fear Of Men, Florist, Vagabon @ Silent Barn
Having already played NYC at the start of their tour, UK dreampop band Fear of Men play the much more intimate Shea Stadium tonight.

The Bouncing Souls, Beach Slang, Cayetana @ Stone Pony
NJ punk heroes The Bouncing Souls are celebrating summer with two Asbury Park shows this week. This is the first, and it has killer support from two new-ish Philly bands.

Heart, Joan Jett and the Blackhearts, Cheap Trick @ Jones Beach
Three bands who are part classic rock radio regulars, part alternative icons, are currently teamed up for this tour that’s sure to be a fun time. This is one of a few NYC-area shows.

Moon Duo @ MoMA Summer Thursdays
Part of the MoMA Nights series, the Pacific Northwest drone-n-motorik kings Moon Duo play tonight in the Sculpture Garden. Free with museum admission.

Jaga Jazzist, Arc Iris, Aiming For Enrique @ (le) poisson rouge
Last year, genre-crossing Norwegian band Jaga Jazzist released their latest album Starfire on Ninja Tune, and they’re continuing to support it. This is a headlining show before they play with Todd Terje and Lindstrom tomorrow.

Marc Ribot and The Young Philadelphians, Inyang Bassey, Binky Griptite @ Bowery Ballroom
Guitar great Marc Ribot has worked with Tom Waits, John Zorn and so many others. His band The Young Philadelphians are currently supporting their new LP Live In Tokyo, which offers very different interpretations of ’70s classics like “Love Roller Coaster” and “The Hustle.”

Rahzel, Pete Rock, Large Professor, DJ JS1 @ Brooklyn Bowl
New York rapper and former Roots member Rahzel plays a hometown show with some impressive guests, including Pete Rock, Large Professor (who both did beats for Illmatic, among many other things of course), and the Rock Steady Crew’s DJ JS1.

TIGUE @ DUMBO (Manhattan Bridge) Archway
The ‘Live at the Archway’ series in DUMBO is “a weekly cabaret below the Manhattan Bridge with free performances, beer, wine, and a magical, only-in-DUMBO setting.” Tonight’s edition has music by experimental percussion trio Tigue.

Mura Masa, Oyinda @ Music Hall of Williamsburg
BBC Sound of 2016-longlisted producer Mura Masa was recently in NYC with NAO (who he’s collaborated with). Now he’s back for his own show, and it’s sold out.

James Chance & The Contortions, Future Punx, Bueno, Dumb Wolves @ The Bowery Electric
No Wave icon James Chance is paired with Brooklyn nu wavers Futurepunx, as sounds through the decades loop.

Honey, Frustrations, Scully @ Union Pool
Detroit’s Frustrations are keeping their city’s garage punk flag flying on their ripper of a new album, Transmission From the Ether. Their part of this awesome bill of likeminded Brooklyn bands (Honey especially is a choice pairing).

Cannibal Corpse, Nile, After The Burial, Suffocation, Carnifx, Enterprise Earth @ Webster Hall
The Summer Slaughter tours have all been pretty good lately, and this one is no different. There’s plenty of qualiy death metal on this bill.

DJ Questlove Presents: George Clinton’s 75th bday a celebration @ Brooklyn Bowl
Tonight’s edition of Bowl Train is beamed to you via the Mothership.
