What's going on Thursday?

cayetana-19
Cayetana @ Baby’s All Right, 2015 (more by Amanda Hatfield)

You can browse our full NYC show calendar for all of tonight’s shows, but here are some highlights…

Bruce Springsteen @ MetLife Stadium
Bruce Springsteen’s ‘The River’ tour is over, but the Jersey boy recently kicked off another tour in his homestate, and this is the second of three shows there. The first show had a FOUR HOUR setlist with 35 songs from all over his career.

Weaves, Cayetana, Frame @ Baby’s All Right
Philly’s Cayetana came out swinging with their great 2014 indie-punk debut Nervous Like Me, and their live shows are always a good time. This is their second of two NYC shows with Toronto “bent-pop” band Weaves.

‘We’ve Come So Far: The Last Days of Death by Audio’ book Q&A @ Rough Trade
Photographer and BV contributor Ebru Yildiz’s amazing photobook about the last two months of DIY venue Death by Audio is out now, and Rough Trade hosts a Q&A with her and many of DbA family and friends. Free, 7 PM.

Daedelus @ MoMA
It’s the final night of the 2016 edition of the MoMA Nights series, which brings live music to the museum’s Sculpture Garden from 5:30-8 PM. It’s free with museum admission.

Le1f, Ash Koosha, Joey Labeija @ Rough Trade
Le1f remains one of NYC’s more unique rappers, and his shows are always a big party. Tonight’s show is with his pal Joey Labeija, plus Iranian-born electronic musician Ash Koosha.

Milemarker, Savak, Puff Pieces @ Saint Vitus
Reunited synthpunk/post-hardcore vets Milemarker are about to release their first album in over a decade, and it picks up right where they left off. Recent live shows have been great, and NYC gets two chances to see them this week. This is the second, and it’s with two new bands with indie rock/post-hardcore veterans: SAVAK (ex-Obits, Nation of Ulysses, Edsel, etc) and Puff Pieces (ex-Antelopes, El Guapo, Vertebrates).

Ja Rule & Ashanti @ Playstation Theater
Before 50 Cent decided to do something about it, Ja Rule was actually kind of a force in rap and had a pretty impressive amount of bangers. A lot of those bangers were with Ashanti on the hook, and they team up for a night of nostalgia tonight.

Half Waif, Hannah Epperson, Fern Mayo, Pollens @ Le Poisson Rouge
Half Waif just finished up a tour with Pinegrove (whose live lineup includes all of Half Waif), and now they grace their hometown with another show. They’ve got a really nicely-layered, synthy art pop sound, and the live show is pretty undeniable.

Bob Log III, The Kevin Dowling Fitness Hour, Borts Minorts @ Mercury Lounge
Arizona’s one-man-slide-guitar-band, Bob Log III, brings his audience-participation “party mess” to Mercury Lounge. Making this already weird night weirder is opener Borts Minorts who really needs to be seen to be believed.

RIPS, TV Ugly, Poppies @ Berlin
Brooklyn band Rips have been making a name for themselves over the last couple years, drawing influence from late ’70s NYC bands like Television, The Feelies (NJ, yes), and Student Teachers. The band currently are putting the finishing touches on their debut album which was produced by Parquet Courts’ Austin Brown. They play tonight with Vancouver’s TV Ugly.

1-800-BAND, Pink Mexico, Tommy and the Conjugal @ Elvis Guesthouse
Brooklyn’s 1-800-Band made their new album with Mitch Easter (Let’s Active, REM, Game Theory, Pavement) who is the perfect man for the job for the band’s hooky, ringing, revved up (and distinctly American) brand of power pop that would sound particularly good blasting out of a top-down convertible this summer.

The Forms, Phone Home @ The Footlight
Long-running NYC indie rock staples The Forms will play a free show at new Ridgewood venue The Footlight tonight. After their set, members of the band will take part in live-band karaoke. Sounds like a fun night.

Julie Klausner, Langston Kerman, Sasheer Zamata, Sean Donnelly, Julio Torres @ The Bell House
Part of the Brooklyn Comedy Festival, this is the “Breakthrough Showcase” hosted by Difficult People’s Julie Klausner. In addition to the laughs, there will be “food, games and prizes” in the front room starting at 5:30 PM.
