What's going on Thursday?

Boss Hog

You can browse our full NYC show calendar for all of tonight’s shows, but here are some highlights…

Sampha, Kelsey Lu @ Music Hall of Williamsburg
Sampha first caught ears by working closely with SBTRKT, but now his own material has been taking off too and he’s gone on to work with huge names like Kanye, Drake, and Frank Ocean. Tonight’s his second of two sold-out NYC shows this week.

Skeletonwitch, Iron Reagan, Oathbreaker, Homewrecker @ Saint Vitus
This show is crazy good for fans of loud music. Skeletonwitch (who now have Adam Clemans of Wolvhammer on vocals) and Iron Reagan will bring the hard-partying thrash, Oathbreaker bring the melodic post-black metal with truly soaring vocals, and Homewrecker will be providing the metallic hardcore. This is their first of two Vitus shows this week.

Pujol, RIPS, Dead Sexy Sheila, White Rope @ Alphaville
Nashville’s Pujol keep more of an ear toward melody than most garage rock outfits (check out last year’s Kludge). Openers RIPS pull influence from late-’70s NYC mutant pop, and compare favorably to that as well.

Cramps tribute with Kid Congo Powers @ Bowery Electric
The Halloween edition of the Sally Can’t Dance party is a tribute to The Cramps. with an absolute killer lineup, including actual onetime Cramps member Kid Congo Powers, Suicide’s Martin Rev, Bob Bert (Sonic Youth, Pussy Galore), Eugene Hutz of Gogol Bordello, Miriam Linna, Palmyra Delran, Mick Collins, Jesse Malin, and more.

Boss Hog, Breanna Barbara @ Union Pool
Boss Hog — featuring Jon Spencer and Christina Martinez — will be heading to Germany for a string of shows in early November, so tonight’s a tour warmup. Don’t miss Breanna Barbara if you’re going to this sold-out show.

The Pack AD, Hollerado, Thick @ Mercury Lounge
It’s a double dose of Canadian rock tonight, featuring the highly underrated (and super-fun live) Hollerado, and Vancouver duo The Pack AD. Recommended.

Mexrrissey @ Le Poisson Rouge
Morrissey’s popularity south of the border is storied, so here’s a natural progression with this Mexico City seven-piece reinventing The Smiths and Moz classics as Mexican folk songs. Novelty? Sí, pero bueno.

Usher, Bryson Tiller, Wiz Khalifa, Tory Lanez, Fat Joe, Remy Ma, Desiigner, Young M.A. @ Barclays Center (Power 105.1 Powerhouse)
This year’s Power 105.1 Powerhouse is headlined by Usher, whose recently-released Hard II Love is a pretty solid return. It also features Fat Joe & Remy Ma (who are responsible for one of the year’s most unavoidable rap hits), Desiigner (ditto), and more.

Cakes Da Killa, SSION, Maluca, LSDXOXO @ Brookyn Night Bazaar
Queer rapper Cakes Da Killa and music/video/visual artist SSION team up for a show at the new Brooklyn Night Bazaar. Support comes from two regulars of NYC’s experimental underground.

Turnstile, Angel Du$t, Fury, Krimewatch, Big Bite @ Sunnyvale
DC’s Turnstile and Baltimore’s Angel Du$t bring their like-minded brand of shouty, catchy, 90s-infused tongue-in-cheek hardcore to Sunnyvale. Both bands have new music out this year, and it should be a high-energy, you-know-what-you’re-in-for show. If you’re going, catch Fury too.

Ricky Eat Acid, Kitty, Kraus, NOLIFE @ Baby’s All Right
Sam Ray already released a Teen Suicide album this year, and tomorrow, his electronic project Ricky Eat Acid releases a new album on Terrible Records. He’s currently on tour with his wife Kitty (fka Kitty Pryde), whose novelty-ish rap had picked up some buzz a few years ago.

Gobby, Eartheater, Pop. 1280 @ NYU
NYU hosts this cool show that’s free and open to the public with DFA artist Gobby, experimental pop artist Eartheater (aka Alex Drewchin of Guardian Alien), and local goth devotees Pop. 1280.

Left Brain, Milky $hake, Juan de One, Rico Esobar$ @ Aviv (midnight show)
Aviv closes on Halloween, and tonight they host a late show with Odd Future’s Left Brain.

‘A Great Night In Harlem’ ft. Dr. John (recipient of the Hank Jones Award) & special appearances by Robert Cray, John Mayer Trio, Robert Randolph, Bruce Willis & more @ The Apollo
“The Jazz Foundation of America (JFA) will host its 15th Annual “A Great Night in Harlem” gala on Thursday, October 27, at the world famous Apollo Theater in Harlem. Proceeds will go to the JFA’s Musicians Emergency Fund, reserved to benefit creative jazz, blues, and R&B artists who have contributed their talents and works to American Music and that includes an ongoing relief effort for Louisiana musicians affected by August’s devastating floods.” This year they’re honoring New Orleans legend Dr. John.

Dave Chappelle @ The Cutting Room
The always-hilarious Dave Chappelle is doing another of his runs of intimate NYC shows. This is his fifth this week (of five, unless he adds more again). And remember, no cell phones allowed inside venue.

For all of tonight’s shows, and tomorrow’s, check out our NYC concert calendar.

For laughs, check out the NYC Comedy calendar too.
