Bouncing Souls

What's going on Thursday?

You can browse our full NYC show calendar for all of tonight’s shows, but here are some highlights…

The Bouncing Souls, Masked Intruder, The Scandals @ Irving Plaza
Consistently-great Jersey punks The Bouncing Souls returned this year with their tenth album, and they’ll wrap up 2016 with a three-night run at NYC’s Irving Plaza (presented by BrooklynVegan). Each night has different openers, and for this one, we’re also running a contest where you can see the sound check, meet the band, and then see the show for free. Details HERE.

David Crosby @ Town Hall
David Crosby returned earlier this year with Lighthouse, his most psychedelic and acoustic guitar-oriented album since the late ’60s / early ’70s. Tonight’s show should be a mix of the new stuff and the classics.

Priests, Pill, Decisions, Abandon @ ALPHAVILLE
Preists let their more subtle side show, just a bit, on their forthcoming Nothing Feels Natural, allowing for atmospheric textures and moody melodies. It’s a welcome gear-change which makes post-punk blazers all the more fiery.

Chairlift, Mr. Twin Sister, Junglepussy @ Good Room
Brooklyn duo Chairlift began the year by releasing MOTH, their most pop-forward record yet, and will wrap it up with this show at Greenpoint’s Good Room with Mr Twin Sister (whose new material sounds very good live) and Junglepussy.

Grooms, Stef Chura, Faten Kanaan @ Shea Stadium
We have it on good authority that Grooms’ new album is in the can and they’ll be playing some of it tonight. If it’s anything like 2015’s Comb the Feelings Through Your Hair, consider us excited.

PAT w/ Eli Escobar, Christy Love, Amber Valentine, Tyler Jensen, Beppe Savoni, JD Samson, Silvia Prada @ Union Pool
It’s the holiday edition of JD Samson’s monthly PAT party, promising “good vibes, good sound, video projection by local video artists and DJ’s that aren’t afraid to go deep.”

Loser’s Lounge tribute to Elton John @ Joe’s Pub
Joe McGinty has been doing Losers Lounge for coming on 20 years, inviting lots of talented friends help pay tribute to the artist of choice. This time: Reg under the spotight, with lots of singing along.

The LOX, Funkmaster Flex @ Highline Ballroom
The great NYC rap trio The LOX — aka Sheek Louch, Styles P and Jadakiss — started releasing music again in 2013, and tomorrow they’ll put out their first full-length in 16 years. Maybe we’ll hear some new tunes tonight.

The Atomic Bitchwax, Worshipper, Mirror Queen, Summoner @ Saint Vitus
Stoner/psych label Tee Pee Records are throwing this show headlined by stoner vets The Atomic Bitchwax, and also featuring Boston’s NWOBHM-inflected’s Worshipper, fellow Bostonians Summoner, and NYC outfit Mirror Queen.

Blondes, James Campbell, I.U.D. @ The Kitchen
The ‘Synth Nights’ concert series at The Kitchen continues tonight with NYC dance duo Blondes, James Campbell, and I.U.D. (aka Sadie Laska and Gang Gang Dance’s Lizzi Bougatsos).

Cuddle Magic, Mirah, Uni Ika Ai @ Trans-Pecos
Cool bill at Trans-Pecos tonight, including the great, long-running singer/songwriter Mirah.

Damian Abraham – ‘Turned Out A Punk’ live podcast taping w/ Michael Allago, Meredith Graves, Walter Schreifels, Tom Scharpling @ Rough Trade
Fucked Up Frontman Damien Abraham does a live taping of his ‘Turned Out A Punk’ podcast at Rough Trade tonight, and he’s got some pretty exciting guests on board.

For laughs, check out the NYC Comedy calendar too.
