Japandroids at The Vic
Japandroids in Chicago last week (more by James Richards IV)

What's going on Thursday?

You can browse our full NYC show calendar for all of tonight’s shows, but here are some highlights…

Japandroids, Craig Finn @ Terminal 5
Japandroids finally followed their beloved 2012 album Celebration Rock this year with Near To The Wild Heart Of Life and it’s a bigger-sounding album in every way. Their live shows are even more fun than the records, and with Craig Finn on the bill too, tonight should be a blast.

The Crazy World of Arthur Brown, Electric Citizen @ Le Poisson Rouge
The Crazy World of Arthur Brown had a style that seemingly influenced the likes of Deep Purple and Black Sabbath, but they’re more than a missing link in the hard rock chain. Their theatrical live show is one of the craziest things on the road right now (and this is their first tour in 47 years).

Hamilton Leithauser, Lucy Dacus @ Music Hall of Williamsburg
Leithauser’s weary yowl brought grit to The Walkman’s raw sound, and it’s aged well as his music has gotten smoother, like on his collaborative 2016 album with ex-Vampire Weekend member Rostam Batmanglij. This is Hamilton’s first of three NYC shows supporting that record. Rostam isn’t listed on the bill, but you never know. Do catch opener Lucy Dacus, whose debut album was released via Matador last year.

Caroline Polachek (of Chairlift) @ National Sawdust
You might’ve expected Caroline Polachek to go even poppier on her first post-Chairlift album, but instead Drawing the Target Around the Arrow is minimal ambient music. She’ll perform that album tonight with assistance from vocal ensemble Choral Chameleon. First of two nights at National Sawdust.

Baby Dee @ National Sawdust
Earlier in the evening at National Sawdust is singer-songwriter, harpist, onetime circus performer and Antony collaborator Baby Dee. The performance is presented by Sxip Shirey.

Buffy Sainte-Marie @ The Appel Room at Lincoln Center
Canadian folk singer Buffy Sainte-Marie has been going strong since the ’60s and she’s put out an album as recently as 2015’s Polaris Prize-winning Power in the Blood. Tonight she returns to NYC for the American Songbook series.

‘The Internet Presents The Internet’ @ Webster Hall
For this tour, all five members of neo-soul group The Internet will perform solo material backed by the other members of the band. Their star, Syd, just released her excellent solo debut album Fin.

G Herbo, DonMonique, Kemba @ Brooklyn Bazaar
NYC’s Red Bull Sound Select shows continue tonight and this one’s curated by PopGun. It’s headlined by Chicago rapper G Herbo (fka Lil Herb) and both local openers are great too.

Greg Fox, Eli Keszler, Mario de Vega @ Roulette
This show is part of Roulette’s Mixology series. Here’s the description: “Roulette’s powerful 12-channel soundsystem is the common denominator of this year’s Mixology Festival. Each evening groups artists with a roughly similar approach, yet each offering a unique perspective on sonic space. The theme in all cases is immersion; participation through active, physical engagement with the medium.”

Ron Gallo, Modern Vices, Retail @ Baby’s All Right
Ron Gallo (of Philly garage rockers Toy Soldiers) released his solo album Heavy Meta on New West Records earlier this month. He’s about to tour opening for Hurray for the Riff Raff, but first he plays this headlining show.

Dave Hause & The Mermaid, The Vansanders @ Berlin
Loved Ones frontman Dave Hause recently released his latest solo album, Bury Me In Philly. He’ll tour later this year opening for Frank Iero, but first he has some smaller headlining shows.

‘Total Relevance’ w/ Kool A.D. & Cult Days @ IDIO Gallery
Former Das Racist member Kool AD and Cult Days (Saba Moeel) are performing at Brooklyn’s IDIO Gallery to celebrate the opening of their new multimedia installation, Total Relevance.
