Solange at Okeechobee Fest 2017 (more by Wildy Civil)

You can browse our full NYC show calendar for all of tonight’s shows, but here are some highlights…

Solange @ Guggenheim Museum (two shows)
Solange’s A Seat at the Table was one of the very best albums of last year. It takes on early-70s psychedelic soul, both musically and lyrically, but still sounds entirely modern. Solange is finally playing shows in support of it, including two at the Guggeneheim tonight as part of Red Bull Music Academy. She next plays NYC at the Panorama festival.

Digable Planets, Joey Purp @ House of Vans
While members of the classic jazz-rap group Digable Planets remain active with other projects (Butterfly with Shabazz Palaces, who have TWO albums due out this year; Ladybug Mecca with BROOKZILL!), they’re continuing the Digable Planets reunion and they have two free NYC shows happening this year. This is the first, and it’s with the great, rising Chicago rapper Joey Purp. This is also the first show in the free 2017 House of Vans concert series.

Bash & Pop, Jason Loewenstein Band (of Sebadoh), Bird Of Youth @ The Bell House (BrooklynVegan Presents)
Tommy Stinson reactivated his post-Replacements band Bash & Pop are released their first new album since the ’90s. We’re sponsoring B&P’s whole tour, which hits Brooklyn tonight with Jason Loewenstein of Sebadoh and Bird of Youth. Hope to see you there!

Sylvan Esso, Lucy Dacus @ Brooklyn Steel
Tonight’s the first of two celebratory, sold-out shows for Sylvan Esso’s new album What Now. They’ll be back to play Prospect Park later this summer.

Ty Segall, Purling Hiss, Shannon Lay @ Warsaw
Having recently released his ninth solo record Ty Segall and his Freedom Band (featuring regular players Mikal Cronin and Charles Moothart) hit NYC for a sold-out three-night stand at Warsaw.

Holy Fuck, Odonis Odonis @ Bowery Ballroom
If you miss the dancepunk days of the mid-’00s, Canadian band Holy Fuck are still flying that flag and their latest album, Congrats, makes a great case of the sound’s continued relevance.

Temples, Lo Moon @ Music Hall of Williamsburg
UK band Temples went from ’60s inspired psychedelia into something closer to the last Tame Impala album for their new release Volcano. Tonight’s their second of two shows at Music Hall of Williamsburg.

Jerry Seinfeld @ Beacon Theatre (two shows)
What’s the deal with these shows? Jerry’s playing Beacon Theatre once a month till hit gets tired of doing so, that’s what’s what. Two shows tonight.

Future, Young Thug, Tory Lanez, A$AP Ferg, Zoey Dollaz @ PNC Bank Arts Center
Future remains prolific and massive, with two 2017 albums already out, one of which is home to one of his biggest singles yet, “Mask Off.” He’s on tour with some ridiculously impressive openers, and tonight’s the first of two shows in the NYC-area. This one has his Atlanta frenemy Young Thug, R&B singer Tory Lanez, the great A$AP Mob member A$AP Ferg, and Future’s Freebandz signee Zoey Dollaz.

David Crosby @ The Space at Westbury
Last year, David Crosby released Lighthouse, quite possibly his best solo album since his 1971 solo debut. He’s already got a new album called Sky Trails in the works, and promising to play some stuff from it on this tour.

The Obsessed, Karma To Burn, Lo Pan @ Saint Vitus
Heavy metal legend Wino has played in a handful of great bands. One of them, The Obsessed, are fresh off releasing their first album in over two decades and now they’re on tour.

Blonde Redhead members performing film scores @ The Kitchen
Like they did in January, Blonde Redhead members Simone and Amedeo Pace will be performing original scores live alongside experimental films, as part of Cinema 16. This is night 1 of 2.

(Sandy) Alex G, True Blue @ The Park Church Co-Op
Breezy indie rocker (Sandy) Alex G releases his new album Rocket on Domino tomorrow, but first plays this sold-out show. It’s his first of three NYC shows on this tour (the other two are in July).

Bowl Train w/ Pete Rock @ Brooklyn Bowl
For this week’s edition of Questlove’s Bowl Train DJ night, the legendary Pete Rock is at the boards.
