What’s going on Thursday?

Operators @ T5
Operators @ T5, 2015 (more by Amanda Hatfield)

You can browse our full NYC show calendar for all of tonight’s shows, but here are some highlights…

Operators, Bogan Via @ Baby’s All Right
While Wolf Parade’s return is one of the most exciting things in indie rock this year, both co-frontmen are still taking the time to focus on other projects too. Dan Boeckner just released a great anthemic synth-punk album with his band Operators, who play this sold-out show tonight.

Death Index, Horoscope, OCDPP @ Cake Shop
Merchandise singer Carson Cox brings his trademark croon to a heavier musical backdrop with his other band Death Index. Tonight’s the first of two NYC shows on their current band, and this one has OCDPP, aka Cassie Ramone, Dee Dee from the Dum Dum Girls (I mean Kristin Kontrol), and OJ from Xray Eyeballs.

Big White, Tall Juan, Ron Gallo @ Berlin
Sydney, Australia’s Big White make bright, guitar pop that that is a direct descendent of their indie ancestors The Triffids and The Go-Betweens. They’re in the midst of an all-out assault on NYC clubs.

Peter Murphy @ Le Poisson Rouge
Tonight Peter Murphy’s “Stripped” tour hits NYC for two shows at LPR. As the tour name implies, he’s playing songs from throughout his career (Bauhaus, solo, maybe even a Dalis Car song?) in semi-acoustic form. The early show is sold out, but tickets are still available to the late show.

Blackalicious @ Marlin Room at Webster Hall
Indie rap vets Blackalicious (aka Gift of Gab and Chief Xcel) returned last year with Imani Vol. 1, their first new album in a decade which picks up right where they left off.

Worriers, Pouty, Painted Zeros @ Mercury Lounge
This is a good lineup all around of melodic, punk-ish indie rock.

Such Gold, PEARS, Original Sharks, Godbrother @ Saint Vitus
New Orleans punks PEARS recently put out Green Star on Fat Wreck Chords. It’s an album of ripping melodic hardcore, and it’s probably gonna be even more fun live.

E, Dan Friel, Insect Ark @ Union Pool
E’s lineup includes a handful of Massachusetts indie rock vets, including Come’s Thalia Zedek, Neptune’s Jason Sanford, and Karate’s Gavin McCarthy. Tonight’s show is with former Parts & Labor member Dan Friel, and former Angels of Light member Dana Schechter (aka Insect Ark).

DJ Questlove Presents: Bowl Train @ Brooklyn Bowl
Questlove does his weekly DJ night at Brooklyn Bowl tonight, and this Instagram seems to confirm he’ll be playing Prince all night. Frequent Bowl Train guest Talib Kweli also tweeted “I Dj at Brooklyn Bowl tonight. Guess what I’m playing all night.”

Kiki & Herb @ Joe’s Pub
Legendary lounge/cabaret duo Kiki and Herb (aka Justin Vivian Bond and Kenny Mellman) went into retirement in 2007 but they’re returning to the stage for this run called “Kiki and Herb: Seeking Asylum!”

Mike Birbiglia @ The Lynn Redgrave Theater
Comedian Mike Birbiglia has been doing his show “Thank God for the Jokes” for nearly two years. He’s putting it to bed, but not before this run which was recently extended through May.
