What's going on Thursday?

Brand New at Madison Square Garden
Brand New at MSG in 2016 (more by Amanda Hatfield)

You can browse our full NYC show calendar for all of tonight’s shows, but here are some highlights…

Brand New, Nada Surf @ Kings Theatre
Brand New finally returned this year with their long-awaited fifth album, Science Fiction, and it somehow managed to exceed its insane expectations. Rather than rehashing the sounds of any previous Brand New album, it’s a step forward for the band. They’re now touring with Kevin Devine as a full-time member, and it looks like they have a pretty wild light show for this run. This is their first NYC show since the new album’s release, and it’s a great double bill with alt-rock lifers Nada Surf.

Margo Price @ Rough Trade
Crossover country great Margo Price deservedly picked up a lot of buzz for her 2016 debut album Midwest Farmer’s Daughter, and she’s already set to follow it with All American Made tomorrow. Ahead of the new album’s release, she plays this small show.

Nicolas Jaar, Actress @ Brooklyn Steel
Electronic musician, singer, and leader of the on-hiatus Darkside, Nicolas Jaar is on night three of his four-night Brooklyn Steel run tonight and says these will be his last NYC shows for a while. All but the fourth night are sold out.

Blue Hawaii @ Good Room
Airy Montreal electronic duo Blue Hawaii released new album Tenderness earlier this month and celebrate its release tonight.

Racquet Club (The Jealous Sound/Knapsack), Jared Hart, Suicide Pact @ Knitting Factory
Racquet Club is the new band of Knapsack/Jealous Sound frontman Blair Shehan, which also includes Knapsack (and Samiam) guitarist Sergie Loobkoff and Jealous Sound drummer Bob Penn. Their recently-released debut album is basically a continuation of both bands’ sounds, with Blair continuing to knock it out of the park with his hooky guitar-rock choruses.

Comeback Kid, Burn, Jesus Piece @ Brooklyn Bazaar
WInnipeg melodic hardcore band Comeback Kid are on tour supporting their new album Outsider, and direct support comes from NYHC legends Burn, who recently released the Kurt Ballou-produced Do or Die (via Deathwish), which is technically their first full-length ever and it’s as crushing as their classic ’90s EPs. Southern Lord signees Jesus Piece open the show.

Sinkane, The Kominas @ Brooklyn Bowl
Sinkane has been having a great year. He released Life & Livin’ It, his best album yet and one that dips into lively ’70s funk more than Sinkane ever has before. He’s also been touring like crazy and graces his hometown with another headlining show tonight.

All Pigs Must Die, Wormwood, Syndromes @ Saint Vitus
Hardcore supergroup All Pigs Must Die — whose lineup includes Converge drummer Ben Koller, Hope Conspiracy vocalist Kevin Baker, Adam Wentworth and Matt Woods of Bloodhorse, and Brian Izzi of Trap Them — are releasing their new album Hostage Animal later this month, but first playing a couple shows, including this one.

Radiator Hospital, Outer Spaces, Snakeskin @ Silent Barn
Tomorrow, indie pop-punk staples Radiator Hospital release their new album, Radiator Hospital Play The Songs You Like. Ahead of its release, they’ll play this show with Outer Spaces, who are worth catching too.

Moon Hooch / Marco Benevento @ Bowery Ballroom
Having just wrapped up a six-night Brooklyn Bowl run as a member of Joe Russo’s Almost Dead, the highly talented Marco Benevento plays NYC with Moon Hooch tonight.

Vita and the Woolf, Queen of Jeans, Ritual Talk @ ALPHAVILLE
Philadelphia’s Queen of Jeans make ethereal guitar pop with just a twinge of surfy twang, and more than a little polish.

Pill, Bodega, Heaven @ Baby’s All Right
Skronky, awesome post punks Pill headline this free show at Baby’s — the whole bill is good, with Bodega’s noise and Heaven’s dreamy shoegaze..

Plates of Cake, Shepherds, Richard Papiercuts @ Berlin
Brooklyn’s ’60s pop inspired band Plates of Cake celebrate the release of their new album, Let’s Not Deprive Each Other, which you can stream below. Eccentric artist Richard Papiercuts is also on the bill.

Dead Rider, Eaters, Christina Schneider’s Genius @ Grant Ceremony
Chicago blues rock weirdos Dead Rider (ex-US Maple) just released new album Crew Licks via Drag City, and play tonight with excellent if hard-to-categorize Brooklyn duo Eaters.

TV Girl, Brothertiger, HDLSS @ Sunnyvale
Pop ironists TV Girl bring an almost Prince Paul production and scathing lyrics to indiepop melodies, for a confection hiding a bitter pill.

‘Nathan for You’ @ The Bell House
What to expect at these Nathan For You Events? “Host Nathan Fielder appears live and in person to give you a sneak peek of the upcoming season of Nathan for You. The screening will be followed by a Q&A discussion that will include several off-the-cuff jokes by Fielder, who’s a mediocre improviser.” Two shows tonight, both sold out.

Springsteen on Broadway
It’s the hottest ticket on Broadway: Bruce Springsteen playing solo at the intimate Walter Kerr Theatre, performing some of his biggest hits and telling stories about them. His show runs through February.

Losers Lounge Tribute to Bee Gees @ Joe’s Pub
For 20+ years Joe McGinty has been leading the Losers Lounge, paying tribute to different artists with his talented band and a host of surprise guest vocalists. Tonight: The Brothers Gibb. 7PM & 9:30PM shows.
