What's going on Thursday?

You can browse our full NYC show calendar for all of tonight’s shows, but here are some highlights…

Alex Lahey, Dude York, Nervous Dater @ Music Hall of Williamsburg
Australian indie rocker Alex Lahey released her great debut album I Love You Like A Brother on Dead Oceans earlier this year, and she’s back in NYC to support it with this BrooklynVegan-presented show. Openers are the Hardly Art-signed Dude York and local indie-punks Nervous Dater. Tickets are still available.

Hot Snakes, Savak, The Piggies @ Bell House
Hot Snakes will release their first album since 2004 on Sub Pop in 2018, but first they’re on this BrooklynVegan-presented tour. Hot Snakes still rip when they play the classics, and maybe they’ll preview some new stuff tonight?

John Cale performs ‘The Velvet Underground & Nico’ with Animal Collective, MGMT, Tunde Adebimpe (TV on the Radio), Connan Mockassin, Caroline Polachek (Chairlift), Thee Oh Sees, Kurt Vile, and Sky Ferreira @ BAM
Punk, indie rock, and basically all underground/alternative music as we know it wouldn’t exist without The Velvet Underground & Nico, and in celebration of the album’s 50th anniversary, surviving member John Cale is performing it with some seriously impressive guests.

Guerilla Toss, Future Punx, Duchess Says @ Baby’s All Right
If you like your music punky, synthy and danceable, tonight’s a pretty killer bill, headlined by DFA’s Guerilla Toss but you’d be a fool to miss Montreal’s Duchess Says who open the night and whose live show you won’t forget.

Unsane, Cherubs, Buildings @ Saint Vitus Bar
NYC noiserock greats Unsane recently released Sterilize, their first album in five years, which finds them just as fierce and awesomely uncomfortable in their skin as ever. Tonight is the first of two sold-out Saint Vitus shows.

Brooklyn Podcast Festival
The Brooklyn Podcast Festival continues tonight with
Reductress Presents: Mouth Time Live! and Serious Matters.

Stars @ Rough Trade
Masters of epics in miniature, Toronto’s Stars remain heartfelt and tuneful on new album There Is No Love In Fluorescent Light. This is their first of three intimate, sold out Rough Trade shows.

The Jesus and Mary Chain @ Stone Pony
While the JAMC have been back in action for a few years now, it wasn’t till this year they got around to releasing their first album in nearly two decades. Damage & Joy saw them slip right back into the groove like they never left. The band also play NYC on Friday.

John Carpenter @ Terminal 5
Having just released an album of rerecorded versions of his classic movie themes, horror master and synth wizard John Carpenter is playing them live on tour. He and his band (which includes his son) will play all the favorites along to projected clips from the movies.

Springsteen on Broadway
It’s the hottest ticket on Broadway: Bruce Springsteen playing solo at the intimate Walter Kerr Theatre, performing some of his biggest hits and telling stories about them. His show runs through February.

Turnover, Elvis Depressedly, Glitterer
Turnover continued their mix of dream pop and emo on this year’s Good Nature, which came out in August on Run For Cover. This is their first of two NYC shows this week.

Talib Kweli with live band, Clockwork DJ @ Brooklyn Bowl
Talib Kweli releases his new album Radio Silence tomorrow, and he celebrates with this show. He was initially just billed as a DJ, but it turns out he’s actually playing with a live band.

Jlin, Total Freedom @ Elsewhere
Footwork producer Jlin has gotten a lot of love for this year’s Black Origami, which is already ending up on year-end lists. Tonight she plays Bushwick’s new venue Elsewhere.

Bedouine @ Joe’s Pub
Azniv Korkejian released her folky self-titled debut album as Bedouine earlier this year on Matthew E. White’s Spacebomb label, and she’s been touring in support of it. Seeing her at a place like Joe’s Pub should be really nice.

The Black Heart Procession, Sam Coomes @ Mercury Lounge
The Black Heart Procession, the indie rock collective led by Pall Jenkins and Tobias Nathaniel (who also both play in Three Mile Pilot), returned to the stage last year and now they’re back in NYC for the first time since 2010. This is their second of two shows this week and both are with fellow indie vet Sam Coomes (of Quasi).

Tyler, The Creator @ Starland Ballroom
Tyler the Creator is still riding high off the strength of this year’s Flower Boy, his best album in a while. He recently played Terminal 5 and he’s in Jersey tonight.

Ringo Starr and His All Starr Band @ NJPAC
The former Beatle drummer’s current all-star band features Todd Rundgren, Steve Lukather (Toto), Richard Page (Mr Mister), Warren Ham, Gregg Bissonette, and Gregg Rolie. Expect songs from his bandmates in addition to Beatles hits and Starr solo numbers.

Cousin Stizz @ SOB’s
Boston rapper Cousin Stizz released his major label debut, One Night Only, over the summer. He’s now on tour in support of it.
