The third annual Yams Day, which pays tribute to the late A$AP Yams, returns tonight and moves to The Bronx’s New York Expo Center this year. A$AP Mob are on the lineup like every year, and they’ve got tons of impressive names joining them, plus some surprise guests.
Hamilton Leithauser @ Café Carlyle
“Jacket required” is certainly not a problem for snappy dresser and former Walkmen frontman Hamilton Leithauser who continues his 10-night run at swanky dinner club Cafe Carlyle.
SAVAK, The Effects, Patois Counselors, Big Quiet @ ALPHAVILLE
SAVAK, featuring members of Obits, Nation of Ulysses and more kick off a short tour with The Effects — which features members of Faraquet and Beauty Pill — tonight. Also on the bill are North Carolina’s fierce, nervy Patois Counselors whose 2015 debut 7″ is definitely worth checking out.
Juan Maclean, Baltra @ Cape House/Rose Gold
Baltra joins Juan Maclean for this week’s edition of his Thursdays in January DJ residency at Rose Gold. It’s free before 10 with RSVP.
David Cross @ Union Hall
Comedian David Cross (Mr Show, Arrested Development) is testing out new material at a whole bunch of “Shootin’ the Shit (And Seeing What Sticks” shows at Union Hall this month.
Springsteen on Broadway @ Walter Kerr Theatre
The Boss continues his completely sold-out “Springsteen on Broadway” run at the Walter Kerr Theatre, which has now been extended through June! At these shows, Bruce plans to give fans shows “that are as personal and as intimate as possible.”
Alejandro Escovedo, Chris Stamey & Millie McGuire @ City Winery
Like last year, Alejandro Escovedo is doing a winter residency at City Winery which begins tonight. He’ll be performing his album A Man Under The Influence in its entirety, backed by a string section. Opening all shows is Chris Stamey of The dB’s, who will be joined by Millie McGuire.
Fabolous, Jadakiss, surprise guest @ secret Brooklyn location
New York rap vets Fabolous and Jadakiss released the collaborative Friday on Elm Street album in late November, and now they’re playing some shows together. This one is free with RSVP and features a “special surprise performance by one of hip-hop’s greatest.” Any guesses??
Slate’s Hit Parade Live in Brooklyn w/ special guest Ted Leo @ The Bell House
This is the first-ever live taping of Slate’s Hit Parade podcast, and this edition will be hosted by Chris Molanphy, who writes Slate’s “Why Is This Song No. 1?” series. Chris will tell “stories about B-side hits throughout pop history” and “it’ll be a night of pop trivia and great music,” with indie rocker Ted Leo as a special guest.
Fetty Wap, NexXthursday @ The Paramount
We’re still waiting on a proper followup to Fetty Wap’s hits-filled 2015 debut album, but meanwhile he’s been releasing a series of For My Fans mixtapes, and now he’s on his “FMF Tour,” hitting Long Island tonight, followed by Montclair’s Wellmont Theater and two shows at NYC’s Irving Plaza.
