What’s going on Tuesday?

L7 at Wrecking Ball Festival 2016 - Saturday
L7 at Wrecking Ball (more by Amanda Hatfield)

You can browse our full NYC show calendar for all of tonight’s shows, but here are some highlights…

Eric B & Rakim, Yo-Yo @ Irving Plaza
Rap as we know it wouldn’t exist without the music that Eric B and Rakim made together, so it’s great news that they’re finally back after two decades and on a reunion tour. Tonight’s their second of two NYC shows, and they also play Long Island this week.

L7, Death Valley Girls, Thee Money $hot @ White Eagle Hall
Punk/grunge vets L7 just announced that they’ll release their first album since 1999 in 2019, following some recent killer singles. Until then, they’re on tour, hitting Jersey City tonight and Brooklyn on Thursday. Their tourmates Death Valley Girls are worth catching too.

“Once in a Lifetime” ft. Billy Martin, Marc Ribot, Nels Cline & Special Guests @ LPR
“A night of musical improvisation featuring a one time super group, created for this special evening to benefit AFP music and art education programs.” This is sure to be a special night with three greats and promised special guests.

Sidney Gish, Adeline Hotel, Half Gringa @ Alphaville
Boston indie rocker Sidney Gish has gotten some buzz this year for her new album No Dogs Allowed. If you haven’t seen her live yet (or just want to again), catch her tonight and see what all the buzz is about.

Fire Is Motion, Owel, Caravela @ Pianos
NJ’s Fire Is Motion have been playing shows this year behind the release of 2017’s great Still, I Try EP, which hearkens back to the ambitious indie rock that was in style during the mid-2000s (they have four guitar players and credit Broken Social Scene for the idea). Well-matched openers too.

Fazerdaze, Stolen Jars, Showtime Goma @ Bowery Ballroom
As Fazerdaze, New Zealander Amelia Murray makes breezy, effortlessly melodic indie rock that recalls mid-’90s alt, from Cardigans-y jazzy pop to more fuzzed-out confections. Her debut album, Morningside, came out last year via Flying Nun and fits right in with the label’s rich history (The Chills, The Bats, The Clean).

Xylouris White, Doug Shaw @ Union Pool
Brooklyn Brewery is presenting this free show featuring the duo of Cretan lute player George Xylouris and Australian drummer Jim White (Dirty Three) who released their third collaborative album back in February. You do need to claim your free tickets.

Pop. 1280, Buck Gooter, Decor, The Art Gray Noizz Quintet @ Elsewhere Zone One
Sacred Bones-signed gothy post-punks Pop. 1280 headline this show that also features Virginia’s industrial blues duo Buck Gooter and mroe.

Springsteen on Broadway
The Boss continues his sold-out “Springsteen on Broadway” run at the Walter Kerr Theatre, which has now been extended through December. At these shows, Bruce is giving fans shows “that are as personal and as intimate as possible.”

thoughts and prayers: A Mandatory Assembly w/ Kristen Buckels, Lacey Jeka, Aparna Nancherla, Jo Firestone, Ilana Glazer, Dan Soder, DJ Aria Jay @ The Bell House
The New York comedy community continues to show support for Everytown for Gun Safety with this fundraiser hosted by Kristen Buckels and Lacey Jeka. In addition to supporting an incredibly worthy cause, the lineup boasts some incredible comedians: Aparna Nancherla, Jo Firestone, Ilana Glazer, and Dan Soder.

How I Learned @ Union Hall
Blaise Allysen Kearsley’s roast-themed “How I Learned” returns for a one-night stand with guests Aparna Nancherla, Isaac Fitzgerald, Dan Kennedy, Mellini Kantayya, and Alex English.
