What’s going on Tuesday?

Blonde Redhead at Pioneer Works
Blonde Redhead at Pioneer Works in 2017 (more by Ryan Muir)

You can browse our full NYC show calendar for all of tonight’s shows, but here are some highlights…

Spoon, Grizzly Bear, Kaitlyn Aurelia Smith @ The Capitol Theatre
Long-running indie bands Spoon and Grizzly Bear are still in fine form, as last year’s very good Hot Thoughts and Painted Ruins (respectively) proved. They’re on a co-headlining tour together now, which is an awesome double bill, and support comes from experimental pop artist Kaitlyn Aurelia Smith. They’re playing Port Chester’s Capitol Theatre tonight and Brooklyn’s Prospect Park tomorrow.

Blonde Redhead, Rafiq Bhatia @ Le Poisson Rouge
Dream pop vets Blonde Redhead have been one of NYC’s greatest treasures for over two decades, and they still bring it at their live shows. Indie-jazz artist Rafiq Bhatia is worth catching too.

Tracyanne & Danny, Lomelda @ Music Hall of Williamsburg
Tracyanne & Danny, the duo of onetime Camera Obscura frontwoman Tracyanne Campbell and Crybaby’s Danny Coughlan, just released their swoony debut album via Merge.

Aimee Mann, Jonathan Coulton @ White Eagle Hall
Veteran singer/songwriter Aimee Mann returned last year with the great Mental Illness, one of her most somber albums yet. She’s currently in the midst of a few NYC-area shows.

Dr. Dog, (Sandy) Alex G @ Brooklyn Steel
Philly indie-psych vets Dr. Dog have been at it forever and this year’s Critical Equation finds them in fine form. Tonight’s their first of three Brooklyn Steel shows with newer Philly act (Sandy) Alex G.

Langhorne Slim, The Texas Gentlemen @ Brooklyn Bowl
Local folk rocker Langhorne Slim graces his hometown tonight, with support from The Texas Gentlemen.

R.I.P., Rattlesnake, Mick’s Jaguar @ Saint Vitus
Portland stoner metal band R.I.P. played some US shows with Electric Wizard earlier this year, and now they’re doing a run of headlining dates.

Guerilla Toss, Jaw Gems, Macrodose, Kiri Stensby (DJ) @ Union Pool
Brooklyn ragtag post-punk dance outfit Guerilla Toss, whose most recent album, GT Ultra, came out via DFA, are playing Brooklyn’s Union Pool every Tuesday in June.

11th Annual Film-Makers’ Coop Benefit w/ Philip Glass w/ Wolfe Glass and Cameron Glass, John Zorn (w/Kenny Wollesen), Elliott Sharp, Vijay Iyer, Transgender Jesus, Optipus, Zero Times Everything @ Bowery Electric
Some of NYC’s most famous iconoclasts are coming together to support Film-Makers’ Coop and proceeds benefit the film-makers’ coop collection of 16mm rare unique artist films from 1923 to today.

Dan + Joe + Charles Show @ The Shanty
This free show at The NY Distilling Company is hosted by Charles Gould, Dan Licata, and Joe Pera (whose excellent Adult Swim show Joe Pera Talks With You just aired its season finale last night). In addition to seeing one of Adult Swim’s brightest new stars, this week’s showcase features an amazing lineup, including Liza Treyger (Comedy Central), Emmy Blotnick (Colbert), Gary Richardson (SNL), Ryan Donahue (Kimmel), and Ryan Schutt (Gotham Comedy Live).

Sweet @ The Slipper Room
Though this is a weekly showcase, this Tuesday’s lineup is not to be missed, especially if you’re a fan of Stella, Wet Hot American Summer, or Children’s Hospital: Michael Showalter will cohost the showcase with Seth Herzog. The lineup includes Michelle Collins (Bachelor in Paradise), Jaime Lee (Girl Code, Crashing), Mike Drucker (Bill Nye Saves The World, Adam Ruins Everything), and Clark Jones (TruTV’s Friends of the People).

Springsteen on Broadway
The Boss continues his sold-out “Springsteen on Broadway” run at the Walter Kerr Theatre, which has now been extended through December. At these shows, Bruce is giving fans shows “that are as personal and as intimate as possible.”
