Sasquatch 2018 - Saturday
Pedro the Lion at Sasquatch 2018 (more by Matthew Lamb, courtesy of Sasquatch)

You can browse our full NYC show calendar for all of tonight’s shows, but here are some highlights…

Pedro the Lion, H.C. McEntire @ Bowery Ballroom
Pedro the Lion are back in it for the long haul. They’re not only playing shows again, but they’ve got their first album since 2004 planned for a 2019 release. This is their first NYC show since reuniting, and it looks like they’ve been playing at least a little new stuff and some of David Bazan’s solo stuff on tour too. Also don’t miss Mount Moriah’s H.C. McEntire, who released a very good solo album earlier this year.

The Decemberists, Hamilton Leithauser @ Prospect Park
The Decemberists released their synthy new album I’ll Be Your Girl earlier this year, which is their most radically different in a while and which has made for some pretty fun moments at live shows. This show was rescheduled from June, and it now has The Walkmen frontman Hamilton Leithauser opening.

Tomberlin, Yowler, Emily Yacina @ Union Pool
Tomberlin recently released her debut album on Saddle Creek, which is personal, delicate singer/songwriter stuff that Julien Baker and Phoebe Bridgers should dig. Tonight’s her first NYC show since its release, and both openers are worth catching too.

Jennifer O’Connor, Guts Club, Clint Michigan @ Wonders of Nature
Long-running NYC singer/songwriter Jennifer O’Connor plays this hometown show with Clint Michigan, who released his recent album Centuries on Jennifer’s Kiam Records (and she sings on it). New Orleans’ Guts Club rounds out the bill.

Batushka, Tomb, Dumal @ Knitting Factory
Mysterious Polish black metal band Batushka released their church-chants-fueled debut album Litourgiya in December 2015, and then finally gave it a US release last year. They were supposed to make their live US debut last year but had to cancel the shows, and now they’re finally playing the US with Knitting Factory shows tonight and tomorrow.

Baby Spiders, Twin Guns, Haunted Horses NYC @ Coney Island Baby
If you remember and miss ’90s-era NYC band Lotion, Baby Spiders features frontman Tony Zajkowski and drummer Rob Youngberg (but is a little more riff-rock than Lotion ever were).

Band of Horses, Bonny Doon @ Stone Pony SummerStage
Veteran Pacific Northwest rootsy alt-rockers Band of Horses have a new album on the way, so you may get a few new songs tonight. If you’re going, Detroit’s Bonny Doon are worth catching.

Jeff Beck, Paul Rodgers, Ann Wilson @ Jones Beach
This is the “Stars Align Tour” features a trio of classic rock heavyweights.

Vacation, RIPS, Substitute @ Our Wicked Lady
Snotty Ohio punks Vacation, who just released new album Mouth Sounds #2699, headline this show that also features wiry Brooklyn band RIPS.

Springsteen on Broadway
The Boss continues his sold-out “Springsteen on Broadway” run at the Walter Kerr Theatre, which has now been extended through December. At these shows, Bruce is giving fans shows “that are as personal and as intimate as possible.”
