Bonnaroo 2018 - Saturday
First Aid Kit at Bonnaroo 2018 (more by Kate Cauthen)

You can browse our full NYC show calendar for all of tonight’s shows, but here are some highlights…

First Aid Kit, Julia Jacklin @ Brooklyn Steel
Swedish folk group First Aid Kit are touring behind this year’s enjoyable Ruins, and they’re now back in NYC with support from Australia’s Polyvinyl-signed Julia Jacklin (who released a very solid album with her band Phantastic Ferniture this year).

The Space Lady, Kate Mohanty @ Trans-Pecos
Covering popular hits with her accordion on the streets of San Francisco in the late ’70s, Susan Dietrich Schneider became known as The Space Lady thanks in part to the silver helmet and wings she wore. It was when her accordion broke and she purchased a then-new Casio MT-40 keyboard, that her covers really took on an ethereal otherworldly quality and her cult outsider artist status grew.

Buck Meek, Renata Zeiguer, Erin Durant @ Union Pool
Big Thief guitarist Buck Meek released his self-titled debut back in May and there is a lot of personality running through the songs on the record, both lyrically and musically, often playing out as little character vignettes. Opening is Renata Zeiguer who has sang and played violin with Ava Luna, Mr. Twin Sister, Leapling, Cassandra Jenkins, and others and who released her solo debut earlier this year as well.

Sammus, Mal Devisa, Ness Nite @ Mercury Lounge
Underground rapper Sammus continues her residency at Mercury Lounge tonight, and this one is with soulful bassist/singer Mal Devisa, whose live show is truly captivating.

Big Eyes, Hurry Up, Thick, Bad Kiss @ The Glove
Hurry Up is the band featuring ex-Thermals members Kathy Foster and Westin Glass, along with Bangs’ Maggie Vail (one of three bands Kathy is currently focusing on and one of two bands Kathy and Maggie are in together). They’re in NYC tonight with local rippers Big Eyes.

James K: Venomist Choir with Lou Dallas @ Secret Project Robot
James K has a standout contribution on the buzzed-about new Yves Tumor album, and tonight continues her 2018 ISSUE residency with the premiere of Venomist Choir, “a piece exploring how voice, and more specifically the mouth, operates as a subversive architecture, vessel, and stage. An electroacoustic composition and multimedia choreography embedded within the context of an official New York Fashion Week show by art and fashion imprint Lou Dallas, the work simultaneously unmasks voice and the nexus existing between fashion, performance, and composition.”

Martin Atkins @ Bowery Electric
Martin Atkins, who has played drums for Public Image Ltd, Ministry, Nine Inch Nails, Pigface, Killing Joke, and more, tonight will be giving a presentation and discussion he’s calling “Memories: My Time In and Out of Public Image Ltd.”

Phoebe Robinson @ Union Hall
One half of 2 Dope Queens, Phoebe Robinson welcomes her funny friends tonight for an evening of laughs and stories.

Ian Anderson presents Jethro Tull @ Beacon Theatre
Vocalist/flautist Ian Anderson is the only “classic” member of Jethro Tull remaining, and he’s currently taking a newly-assembled version of the band on their 50th anniversary tour.
