What’s going on Tuesday?
You can browse our full NYC show calendar for all of tonight’s shows, but here are some highlights…
Los Campesinos!, Adult Mom @ Elsewhere
Los Campesinos! quickly gained internet buzz after releasing their first two albums in 2008, and they’ve maintained a diehard fanbase for the past decade, while also progressing their sound in interesting ways. This tour is in celebration of the 10th anniversary of their first two LPs (though going by Setlist.fm, it looks like they’re playing career-spanning sets). They play Elsewhere tonight and tomorrow.
Cardi B, Julia Michaels, Danileigh @ Terminal 5
It’s been a hell of a year for Cardi B, who followed the unstoppable “Bodak Yellow” with her debut album which produced even more huge hits. She had to cancel a tour due to giving birth, but she’s been playing shows again lately and hits her hometown for a free (with RSVP) Pandora show tonight.
Jim James (of My Morning Jacket), Alynda Segarra @ Town Hall
My Morning Jacket frontman Jim James released two related albums this year: Uniform Distortion, and then the acoustic Uniform Clarity. Tonight’s show will be more clarity than distortion as its being billed as a “unique, career-spanning solo acoustic concert” with Hurray for the Riff Raff’s Alynda Segarra opening.
Letters To Cleo, American Hi-Fi @ Bowery Ballroom
’90s alt-rock band Letters to Cleo, best known for “Here and Now,” released their first new LP in 20 years back in 2016.
Tennis, Matt Costa @ (le) poisson rouge
Married couple Alaina Moore and Patrick Riley, who are Tennis, are leaving their backing band at home and playing as a duo, with stripped-down versions of their songs. They call it “Solo in Stereo.”
Jeff Tweedy @ Murmrr Theatre
Jeff Tweedy releases his new memoir Let’s Go (So We Can Get Back) this week and celebrates with two nights at Murmrr. While ostensibly a book tour, these are “An Evening with Jeff Tweedy” shows where he’ll be playing a few songs in addition to talking about the book — at Sunday’s show Yo La Tengo’s Ira Kaplan moderated the conversation.
Riz MC, Humeysha @ Public Arts
Actor/rapper Riz Ahmed is probably most known for his roles in The Night Of, Rogue One, and other movies and TV shows, but he’s also a great rapper who performs as a member of the Swet Shop Boys (with Heems and Redinho) and on his own under the name Riz MC. He recently released the very promising new single “Mogambo,” and now has NYC and London shows scheduled. The NYC show is tonight.
Yowler, Bethlehem Steel @ Park Church Co-Op
Yowler (aka All Dogs singer Maryn Jones) recently released her sophomore album Black Dog In My Path, which sees her going into different and more full-band territory than her singer/songwriter-y debut. Tonight, she plays the gorgeous Park Church Co-Op.
Hamish Kilgour, Miranda and The Beat, Freetime, Disaster Deluxe @ The Bowery Electric (Map Room)
Drummer for The Clean, Hamish Kilgour released new solo album Finkelstein earlier this year and plays this “benefit” for the National Circus of Finklestein in Bowery Electric’s Map Room.
Ice Balloons, Benni, Weeping Xcon, Vial Service @ The Glove
TV on the Radio’s Kyp Malone lets his funky freak flag fly with the fun, unpredictable Ice Balloons. Weeping Xcon (aka Brooklyn’s Weeping Icon in “noise set” mode) and Bênní, the “Kajun Kraftwerk Sci Fi Budget Warlock,” make this an all-around quality, weird lineup.
Springsteen on Broadway
The Boss continues his sold-out “Springsteen on Broadway” run at the Walter Kerr Theatre, which runs through December. At these shows, Bruce is giving fans shows “that are as personal and as intimate as possible.”
Everyday Decisions with Jo Firestone @ Joe’s Pub
The very busy Jo Firestone hosts this show where she is joined by “friends, colleagues, and children to discuss how they make their everyday decisions.” Tonight’s guests include Jon Ronson (The Men Who Stare at Goats, The Psychopath Test), Black Thought (The Roots), Max Wittert (New Yorker, New York Times) and Claire Saffitz (Bon Appetit).
