What's going on Tuesday?

Rufus Wainwright
Rufus Wainwright

You can browse our full NYC show calendar for all of tonight’s shows, but here are some highlights…

Rufus Wainwright @ Beacon Theatre
This is the NYC date of Rufus’ “All These Poses” tour which celebrates the 20th anniversary of his career where he’ll focus on songs from his first two albums — 1998’s Rufus Wainwright and his 2001 breakthrough, Poses.

Yo La Tengo @ Bowery Ballroom
One of the great NYC holiday traditions, Yo La Tengo continue their eight-night Hanukkah celebration at Bowery Ballroom, with surprise openers, comedians and collaborators. We’ve had Sun Ra Arkestra, Graham Nash, the Blind Boys of Alabama and Jon Langford so far…what surprises will Night 3 bring?

Shannon Shaw, Las Rosas, Champagne SuperChillin @ Brooklyn Bazaar
While not that different than the music she makes with The Clams, Shannon Shaw teamed up with producer/arranger Dan Auerbach for Shannon In Nashville, which put her voice in a string-ladened setting with clear nods to Dusty in Memphis.

Orbital, Alex English @ Brooklyn Steel
UK dance greats Orbital (aka Phil and Paul Hartnoll) released Monsters Exist, their first album since 2012, earlier this year which finds them still in excellent, blissed-out form.

True Stories screening w/ David Byrne Q & A @ IFC Center
David Byrne’s feature film directorial debut (and only feature to date), the weird and wonderful True Stories, just got a restored Criterion Collection edition, and you can see it on the big screen tonight, with David Byrne on hand for the 7 PM and 9:15 PM screenings.

2 Dope Queens @ Kings Theatre
Jessica Williams and Phoebe Robinson’s hit podcast, 2 Dope Queens, may be done, but it lives on as an HBO series. Season 2 tapes this week at Kings Theatre, starting tonight.

Janelle James Comedy Festival @ The Bell House & Union Hall
Eugene Mirman had his own comedy festival in Brooklyn for 10 years but has passed the torch to Janelle James and the fun starts tonight at The Bell House and Union Hall.

Lindsey Buckingham @ Town Hall
Lindsey Buckingham parted ways with Fleetwood Mac at the start of this year and wasted no time in booking his own tour. The tour is promoting a new solo anthology but expect some Mac classics, too.

Springsteen on Broadway
The Boss will soon wrap up his sold-out, year-long “Springsteen on Broadway” run at the Walter Kerr Theatre — the last show is December 15. For those who didn’t manage to score a ticket (or didn’t want to spring for pricey tickets) his intimate show is coming to Netflix this month as a concert special.

Brian Wilson @ Bergen PAC
We’re fully in the season where you’re hearing holiday music everywhere you go. And if you’d like to hear the music from one of the most classic holiday albums ever, 1964’s The Beach Boys’ Christmas Album, you may want to see this tour where Beach Boys mastermind is performing the album in full. Like at his Pet Sounds shows, Brian will be joined by fellow Beach Boys Al Jardine and Blondie Chaplin (and other musicians). The tour hits NJ tonight and Staten Island on Friday.

Thurston Moore, Bill Nace, Samara Lubelski @ The Stone
Sonic Youth’s Thurston Moore will be in residency at NYC’s newly-relocated The Stone tonight through Saturday, and he’s got interesting guests each night. Tonight he’ll be joined by Bill Nace (who plays with Kim Gordon in Body/Head) and Samara Lubelski (who played with Thurston in Chelsea Light Moving).

Doom Side Of The Moon, Netherlands @ Warsaw
As the name implies, Doom Side of the Moon do metal covers of Pink Floyd songs, and the band is led by The Sword guitarist Kyle Shutt. Experimental heavy band Netherlands opens tonight.

Pharoah Sanders @ Birdland (two shows)
Free jazz saxophonist Pharoah Sanders was a key member of John Coltrane’s bands in the ’60s before becoming a legendary bandleader in his own right with classic albums like 1969’s Karma. He remains influential today (on Kamasi Washington and others), and this week he’s doing two shows a night at Birdland through Saturday.

Roosevelt @ Music Hall of Williamsburg
Electronic pop artist Roosevelt plays his second of two NYC shows tonight supporting his n ew album Young Romance.

Porches (solo), Adult Mom, Barrie, Meredith Graves (DJ) @ The Velvet Underground Experience
Porches’ Aaron Maine plays a solo set at this party in the downstairs basement of The Velvet Underground Experience (which is hosting shows in addition to the exhibition). Adult Mom and Barrie also play — it’s free with RSVP and there’s a “bar courtesy Illegal Mezcal”).

Cherrie, ViVii, Vacation Forever, Bella Boo (Sweden Makes Music) @ Baby’s All Right
It’s the Swedish Embassy’s annual “Sweden Makes Music” show at Baby’s All Right which highlights emerging pop talent, this year including Gorilla Vs Bear faves Bella Boo.
