You can browse our full NYC show calendar for all of tonight’s shows, but here are some highlights…

Covet, Vasudeva, Holy Fawn @ Elsewhere Rooftop
Instrumental rock trio Covet are touring behind their 2018 Triple Crown debut efforsce, and support comes from their shoegazy black metal labelmates Holy Fawn and likeminded instrumental band Vasudeva. That’s a cool bill all around, and even cooler is the fact that this show is on the roof.

Jeff Lynne’s ELO @ Prudential Center
ELO’s many hits — “Telephone Line,” “Turn to Stone,” “Evil Woman” and more — still sound great with Jeff Lynne’s current lineup of the band that includes, crucially, a string section.

Sacred Paws, Public Practice, Air Waves @ Rough Trade
Glasgow’s Sacred Paws, the duo of Rachel Aggs (Shopping, Trash Kit) and Eilidh Rodgers (ex Golden Girls), released Run Around the Sun last month, which is a perfect title for the infectious, joyous pop found within. This whole bill is great with the post-punky Public Practice and jangly Air Waves also on the bill.

Wiz Khalifa, French Montana, Moneybagg Yo, Chevy Woods, DJ Drama @ Jones Beach
“The Decent Exposure Tour” features a slew of big-name rappers and it hits Jones Beach tonight.

Jim Jones, Cris Streetz, Maliibu Miitch, Snoopy Dinero @ Gramercy Theatre
NYC rap vet and Dipset member Jim Jones released his new solo album El Capo earlier this year and he celebrates tonight. It’s an all-NYC lineup of openers, including the very promising Bronx rapper Maliibu Miitch.

Sad Summer Festival w/ The Wonder Years & more @ The Rooftop at Pier 17
Most of this lineup is a bit too on the polished pop punk side for us (State Champs, Mayday Parade, The Maine, etc), but it’s worth pointing out that it’s a chance to see The Wonder Years in NYC. They’re still riding high off last year’s great Sister Cities, which was one of their most ambitious, genre-defying works yet.

Mike Birbiglia @ Cherry Lane Theatre
Mike Birbiglia regularly tests out new material with “Working it Out” shows that are often last-minute gigs at tiny clubs like Brooklyn’s Union Hall. This summer, Mike will be “Working it Out” at a residency at Manhattan’s Cherry Lane Theatre that continues tonight and runs through August 15.

Dave Chappelle @ Lunt Fontanne Theatre
Dave Chappelle hasn’t toned things down for his Broadway debut, which runs through July 20. As is usually the case at Chappelle shows, no phones.

Chuck Klosterman @ Saint Vitus Bar
Writer Chuck Klosterman, perhaps best known for  Sex, Drugs & Cocoa Puffs, is at Vitus tonight to talk about his new book, Raised in Captivity.

Electric Six, Joy Cleaner @ WFMU Monty Hall
It’s been a decade and a half since tongue-in-cheek Detroit rock band Electric Six had a hit with “Danger! High Voltage!” but they keep on plugging away with a sense of humor to go along with their intentionally unchecked bravado.

For laughs, check out the NYC Comedy calendar too.
