Madonna Madame X

What's going on Tuesday?

You can browse our full NYC show calendar for all of tonight’s shows, but here are some highlights…

Madonna @ BAM: Brooklyn Academy of Music
Madonna is doing something different in support of her new album Madame X, playing multi-night runs at intimate theatres instead of the arenas where she normally holds court. What she has in store is anyone guess but we’ll know tonight.

Andrew Bird, Chicano Batman @ Kings Theatre
Andrew Bird released his new album, My Finest Work Yet, back in March which is another feather in his cap, full of lush orchestral pop that gives whistling a good name.

Tanya Tucker, Reverie Lane Bowery Ballroom
Country legend Tanya Tucker, who burst on the scene in 1972 at age 13 with her Top 10 smash debut single “Delta Dawn,” returned this year with While I’m Livin’, her first album of all-new material in 17 years which was produced by Brandi Carlile, who co-wrote the album with twins Tim and Phil Hanseroth, and Shooter Jennings.

Boy Harsher, Olivia Neutron-John @ Music Hall of Williamsburg
Coldwave synthpop duo Boy Harsher released the very good Careful back in February and bring their icy pop beats to Brookyn.

The Long Ryders, Sarah Borges, Eric Ambel @ Rough Trade
The Long Ryders, who skirted the twangy outskirts of L.A.’s Paisley Underground scene in the ’80s, returned this year with Psychedelic Country Soul, their first album in over 30 years. The album title is a good description of what the band do, too, and the new LP finds them in fine jangly form, picking up right where they left off.

Angels & Airwaves, The New Regime, Charming Liars @ PlayStation Theater
The Tom Delonge-less blink-182 have been very busy lately, and while Tom has spent more time with UFO-related concerns than music lately, he’s now taking his U2-ish band Angels & Airwaves on tour for the first time in seven years. It’s obviously not the same as seeing Tom back with blink, but he has been doing a solo acoustic medley of blink-182 and Box Car Racer songs at these shows.

Talkhouse Podcast conversation with Lee Ranaldo (of Sonic Youth) & Ian Williams (of Battles) @ Everlane Williamsburg
Members of Sonic Youth and Battles are coming together for this live Talkhouse Podcast conversation, which also celebrates clothing store Everlane’s “launch of Uniform and our largest Men’s Shop to date.” It goes from 7-9 PM, and there will also be free drinks.

Conflict, Sewer Skewer, Demencia Alkoholika, Despairwolf, Fuck It. I Quit. @ The Kingsland
UK anarcho-punks Conflict are still going strong, and they’re playing some shows including NYC tonight.

Jason Anderson, Corey Laitman @ Union Pool
Jason Anderson (of Wolf Colonel, Tracks, Strand of Oaks’ live band, and a long-running solo artist) has a new album on the way, but first he’s been releasing one “lost” project each month in 2019. He hasn’t played live much lately, but he’s coming to NYC for a headlining one-off tonight.

Josh Gondelman @ The Bell House
Comedian and Last Week Tonight writer Josh Gondelman celebrates the release of his new book, Nice Try.

Mickey Leigh, Heap @ The Bowery Electric
Mickey Leigh, who is the brother of Joey Ramone and was also in band Birdland with Lester Bangs, has a new album, Mutant Music, and celebrates tonight.

Adam Green (in conversation with), Lizzy Goodman, Jenny Eliscu @ The Hole (Meet Me In The Bathroom: The Art Show)
Onetime Moldy Peach member Adam Green talks with Lizzy Goodman and Jenny Eliscu about art and the early-’00s days of the NYC art and music scene as part of the Meet Me in the Bathroom Art Show.
