battles

What's going on Tuesday?

You can browse our full NYC show calendar for all of tonight’s shows, but here are some highlights…

Battles, Guerilla Toss @ Music Hall of Williamsburg
Mathy dancerock group Battles’ new album, Juicy B Crypts, splits the difference between powerful instrumentals and tracks with guest vocalists (like Xenia Rubinos, Yes vocalist Jon Anderson, Sal Principato of ’80s era NYC dance-punk group Liquid Liquid, Shabazz Palaces, and Tune-Yards). Maybe we’ll get a few of those guests tonight.

The Cult, Spirit Animal @ The Paramount
The Cult are celebrating the 30th anniversary of their breakthrough album A Sonic Temple, which scored them a U.S. Top 40 hit with “Fire Woman.”

Mumford & Sons, Mavis Staples, Nathaniel Rateliff, Yola @ Beacon Theatre
This year’s annual WFUV’s annual Holiday Cheer benefit show has an especially big headliner (Mumford & Sons), plus the great Mavis Staples, Nathaniel Rateliff and more.

Ben Folds @ Showfields
Ben Folds plays this free, intimate show at Noho store Showfields — no RSVP is necessary. 5-6 PM. More details here.

Leif Vollebekk, Rebecca Foon @ Bowery Ballroom
Montreal singer-songwriter Leif Vollebekk released New Ways, his fourth studio album, earlier this month. It takes a slightly different turn from 2017’s intimate Twin Solitude, adding more over elements of pop and soul to his folky sound.

Field Mouse, Long Neck, Proper., Chris Gethard @ Littlefield
Long Neck and Field Mouse bring their 2019 Winter Chills co-headlining tour with some great support, including comedian Chris Gethard.

You can also find quality entertainment on almost any night of the week at: Barbès bar and performance space in Park Slope, LunÀtico in Bed Stuy, Nublu in the East Village, Blue Note jazz club in the West Village, The Stone in multiple locations, Comedy Cellar in the West Village, and Q.E.D. comedy club in Astoria.
