What's going on Tuesday?

Beach Slang at Knitting Factory, 2015 (more by Amanda Hatfield)

You can browse our full NYC show calendar for all of tonight’s shows, but here are some highlights…

Dinosaur Jr, Screaming Females @ House of Vans
This surprise free show was just announced earlier today, and it features two bands who give indie rock a much-welcome dose of shredding.

ScHoolboy Q @ Highline Ballroom
ScHoolboy Q just released his great new album Blank Face LP, which is a darker, more minimal album than his predecessor and stacked from start to finish. He’ll play this sold-out show tonight ahead of his appearance at NYC’s Panorama festival.

Rakim @ B.B. King’s
Rap as we know it probably wouldn’t exist without Rakim’s Paid In Full, and he’ll be playing that album in full tonight (one of a few shows in the area).

Beach Slang (perform “Pleased To Meet Me” by The Replacements), The Can’t Tells (perform “Doolittle” by Pixies), Gambles (performs “Stories From The City, Stories From The Sea” by PJ Harvey) @ Knitting Factory Brooklyn
This show has three bands covering full albums, and especially of note is the great punk band Beach Slang, who have a clear Replacements influence and cover their songs frequently anyway. This should be fun.

Hall and Oates, Sharon Jones & The Dap-Kings @ PNC Bank Arts Center
With a long, long list well-known tunes — including Number One smashes “Rich Girl”, “Kiss on My List”, “Private Eyes”, “I Can’t Go for That (No Can Do)”, “Maneater”, and “Out of Touch” — it should be a danceable hit parade all night long. Making the night not just a nostalgia-fest are the great Sharon Jones & the Dap Kings.

Culture Club @ The Wellmont Theater
It’s the original lineup of ’80s icons Culture Club. Expect multiple costume changes from Boy George and hits, hits, hits.

The Coathangers, L.A. Witch, Baby Shakes @ Bowery Ballroom
Atlanta garage punks The Coathangers are back in New York supporting this year’s solid Nosebled Weekend. It’s worth catching L.A. Witch too.

The Roots, Antibalas @ Brookfield Place Plaza
It’s time for the 2016 edition of NYC’s Lowdown Hudson Music Fest, and the first of two nights features sets from The Roots and Antibalas. Free, with doors at 5 PM and the show starting at 6.

Destroyer 666, Ares Kingdom, Mutilation Rites @ Saint Vitus Bar
Australian/European thrash crew Destroyer 666 sadly had to drop off MDF earlier this year, but they’re finally on our shores and playing NYC tonight.

Cake Shop Comedy at Cake Shop
If you miss Big Terrific and Hannibal Buress’ Sunday night show at Knit, and are looking for a new free, weekly comedy show that happens in a rock club and sometimes has big name talent stop by unexpectedly, “Cake Shop Comedy” might do the trick.

Sweet with Seth Herzog at The Slipper Room
Seth Herzog hosts this long-running comedy night that always features great guests.

For all of tonight’s shows, and tomorrow’s, check out our NYC concert calendar.
