Chillwave may be over, but Neon Indian haven’t stopped writing addictive pop music. Recent live shows have been super fun, and hopefully tonight will be no different. Also, it’s totally free.
Snoop Dogg, Wiz Khalifa, Jhene Aiko, Kevin Gates, DJ Drama, Casey Veggies @ Jones Beach
This tour has a pretty stacked hip hop lineup, with legends like Snoop Dogg and awesome newcomers like Kevin Gates.
Jill Scott, Georgia Me @ Apollo Theater
Neo-soul great Jill Scott’s got one hell of a voice, and a consistently solid discography to back up her vocal prowess. Tonight she plays the historic Apollo Theatre, and she’ll play NYC again this weekend on Coney Island.
Julia Jacklin @ Berlin
This show has been postponed till August 26.
Breanna Barbara, Chillemi, Montana Simone, DJ Piper Durabo (of Puro Instinct) @ IDIO Gallery
Bushwick’s IDIO Gallery currently needs some help staying open, but meanwhile, the fun goes on. Tonight they’ve got live music, including the bluesy Breanna Barbara, who just released a very good album.
Annie Hart, ‘My Blind Brother’ screening @ Solar One
This is Rooftop Films’ free LOL Movie Series and tonight features new Nick Kroll / Jenny slate indie comedy ‘My Blind Brother’ as well as live music from Au Revoir Simone’s Annie Hart.
Yes @ St. George Theatre
Prog rock vets Yes, which currently features guitarist Steve Howe, drummer Alan White, keyboardist Geoff Downes and bassist Billy Sherwood and singer Jon Davison in the lineup, play Staten Island tonight.
Cake Shop Comedy at Cake Shop
If you miss Big Terrific and Hannibal Buress’ Sunday night show at Knit, and are looking for a new free, weekly comedy show that happens in a rock club and sometimes has big name talent stop by unexpectedly, “Cake Shop Comedy” might do the trick.
Seth Herzog’s SWEET: Stand Up Comedy Show @ The Slipper Room
Seth Herzog hosts this long-running comedy night that always features great guests.
